Yes, he knows. Today's morning dose of 30mg didn't feel so good.

I see him Friday. He was wondering if I needed to go to a doctor, too. It's just that when I go, I get told everything is fine, it's depression. Gets old.

Thanks, Phillipa.

FB I know but what does your regular doc base this on has he done bloodwork? Ultrasound? MRI? Urinealysis? sp? Maybe if he hasn't done tests you could insist? Explain exactly what this pain and exact location is, when does it occurr before after eating. How many hours? After the cymbalta? You know where I am. You know women have referred pain from other organs also. I've been through this a lot with docs I have. Phillipa

Yes. Thanks for remembering, Maxime :)

Well, my doc is concerned. He acts at conservative speed, so he suggested I take my dose later in the day, either all at once or split.

The topic of gastritis came up. Well, I took enough Latin to know what the word means, but not the actual illnesses. I started crying (only a tiny bit) because I am tired of going to doctors and being told nothing is wrong.

So today, it's 1:00, and I haven't taken any. I did eat my oatmeal w/ goatmilk and still have a (milder) upset stomach.

So I'm not looking forward to my cymbalta dose. Maybe I do have gastritis
--after meds, anxiety, and depression, why not?

I can call him any time, and he re-emphasized that.

The little I've read about gastritis said what Emmanuel said--that it can refer to the back. (Not that s/he referred to gastritis.)

Thanks for asking, Maxime. I've been wondering how your add-on is working....

Wooh just thought if upper right side to back could be gallbladder? I once thought I had it also but an U/S said no. I was working at the hospital they sent me right downstairs for one. No meds at the time other than low dose benzos. Or it just could be anxiety. Phillipa

Hi FB, I did a search for you and it looks like gastritis is an "infrequent" side effect of Cymbalta.

Phillipa made a good point, it does sound like your pain could be your gallbladder. Did your doctor suggest that it might be that?

I really hope you get it all figured out soon.

Ladies, thanks for Googling on my behalf. That is VERY kind. Really.

Gallbladder?

I've read wiki on gastritis (actually didn't get to finish). It presents in so many forms!

I might go to my gp this week. She's new and not into power :)

It could be anxiety (really?).
H. pylori infection (common).
If anyone would tell me it's all depression (as in 'you psycho, it's all in your head') she would be the most empathetic. She's new.

So I guess I should go. Every time I eat now :( I lose energy and at the very least feel queasy.

Thanks for tracking this. I like it that you think of me :)

FB it very well could be depression/anxiety. Someone told me in e-mail today to rule out all physical first. I don't feel well either. Anyway H pylori is the cause of ulcers. Bacteria so antibiotics. No big deal. And by now if gallbladder you might be in serious pain. I'm also struggling with trying to figure out things too. Love Phillipa

After looking through that link you sent, I ruled out gall stones.

So, yeah, sure, anxiety. I feel like I'm going nuts! This time discomfort can disable me for hours, and I dread eating because of the aftermath.

So, I'll have some non-invasive tests.

That was a good link btw. Thanks.!

Why the slow titration up? Is it because the stomach pain. After two months on a med and no real mood response it is probably time to increase dosage.

They went up to 120mg of cymbalta in a week and a half on me while i was in the hospital. i was also taking zyprexa with it. I stopped taking it after about 2 and 1/2 weeks. I wish I could comment on the efficacy, but obviously never gave it enough time. I was more frustrated with the zoning out spells I had while on it, but the zyprexa could have been causing that. Who knows.

Pretty easy self examination to rule out gallstones. You put your fingers and press inwards just below the right rib cage and take a deep breath. While inspiration the gallbladder ascends upwards and on expiration the gallbladder descends. When it descends it should cause a lot of pain because it is bumping against the fingers pressed into your right upper quadrant. The only other thing in that area is the liver. Simple blood test would rule out liver malfunction. The liver enzymes AST and ALT would be elevated in that case. Remote chance it could be pancrease. Again routine blood work would show if that was the problem as well. Lipaase and Amylase would be elevated. If it were kidney stones you would be on the floor in a fetal position by now and probably blood in your urine. It is hard to deny the unique pain of kidney stones.

The one common condition that wouldn't show up on any blood work or urinalysis is diverticulosis or diverticulitis. To diagnose that you would need a CT of the abdomen/Pelvis. Both of which are fairly common. There are pockets within the large colon that become inflamed which is diverticulitis. The pain with that condition is usually diffuse across the abdomen. Not really in a particular spot.

If the pain has lasted for months and it was something serious like abdominal aortic aneurysm, or peritonitis, you would be kaput.

There are a couple other things it could be if the pain is exacerbated when you breath, but I won't get into that because I think you would have mentioned that symptom if it where true.

I hope this helps.

Hello.
I found your post very interesting.

I am also taking Cymbalta.
A few weeks ago I tried to quit and got the exact pain you describe (upper abdomen pain that goes through to my back).

Resuming the Cymbalta eliminated the pain.
I never had this pain before taking Cymbalta.
Had blood work done (including liver function) and everything was ok.

On Monday I see my newer GP. After past two days, I can't take it. For awhile it remained background. Today, stomach cramping before meds, before breakfast, then afterwards. If it is the cymbalta, I can't figure out the timing. :(

Hey, roscopeeco,

Thanks, and yes, I don't have those symptoms. Cool way to check for gallstones. You sure know some interesting stuff.

Just curious what pain after breathing indicates. (Your right. Haven't noticed that.)

beyondcrazy,

Within hours of missing pristiq I would feel ill, nausea and abdominal pain among the symptoms. Dizziness, too--and that zappy feeling.

Hey, since breakfast is the worst, it also coincidences with the longest elapsed time between doses--16+ hours. Hmmm.

So you want off but are continuing for now?

Yeah, continuing for now because Im too scared to go off it again.
But you know what ha - it seems to be helping a little now.

Now taking 60mg in the morning and another 30mg at midday.
And yeah I start feeling those cramps if I miss a dose by more than 4 hours.

Sounding like some withdrawl the time release meds don't always release as they should. Like time release xanax some say they need regular to even it out inbetween doses. Phillipa

Your lungs are surrounded by two layers. In the middle is lubrication so when you breath, the layers slide past each other without any pain. One of the layers can become infected and inflammed causing pain when you breath. It isn't a serious condition, but can be very painful. It is called pleurisy.

Well, my gp says it's the Cymbalta. I'm at 90 now, trying to figure the timing, but I don't see this as a workable solution. The nausea can ambush me any day. Between that and a resurgence of social anxiety (anxiety in general, too), having a 'good' day is becoming rarer. :(

GP handed me Lyrica samples? Anyone try it?

(The cymbalta really does diminish pain--if I wasn't in that dang 25%!)

Hi Phillipa,

No worries about your opinion :) I forget what dose she wrote. I haven't started it; I haven't even looked up much. My first Google brought up sites for Lyrica abuse. (?) That surprised me.

My physiatrist doesn't see much results from it, either, but I know that I could be the exception. Not that I'm hyped up about Lyrica. I'm living day to day w/o much direction. Not sure about any of it-
-flushing my morning handful of pills down the toilet or what. Is it too much? Too much of wrong stuff? Or maybe one more? ...Blah-blah-blah. Oi.

Thanks for asking :- /
