The improved sleep from agomelatine is gone with me, but I stll take it because of the push it gives me.

I cope much better with crappy sleep the day after with it.

I don't know what to do about the sleep thing, so I have decided to go with the flow.

I have small stocks of old meds leftover (haven't we all?).

Ive already tried adding trimipramine, a particularly strong 5-HT2 agonist to agomelatine. Too many dreams for me in one night thankyou! But just showing it can be done. No toxic 'interaction' from what I felt. But I easily have bad/vivid dreams. It might be an excellent 5-HT2 agonist combo for some...

OK. Feels like the Valdoxan has settled now, and I like it! Certainly an improvement on my standard clonazepam + isocarboxazid combo. Feel more alive, tho my emotions are running wild. That is a good sign IMO. Means my brains working more 'normal'. Sad stuff can draw a tear or too. Excitement (about something exciting!) is raw yet refreshing. NO hypomania.
Just one 'issue'. Dreaming has become more vivid like with trimipramine, but feels more natural. Tho paralysis is present in the mornings. But it is cold. Maybe my body just wants to stay under the covers? lol

Right, I have enough Valdoxan so up to 50mg me thinks! NOT doctor's orders, but I gotta try it. Even the literature says 50mg is the likely theraputic dose.

Alchemy,

I wondered why my ears have been ringing. Now I know; my friend Alchemy mentioned my name.

> But I know it was a miracle for Ron Hill

The word "miracle" is perhaps an overstatement regarding the overall action of Valdoxan for me. For example, Valdoxan can cause daytime sleepiness for me, and this side effect is dose dependent. I added 2.5 mg/day of Adderal XL to treat this Valdoxan side effect. I'd like to take more Adderal XL, but stimulants cause me to become very irritable (GRRRRRRRRRRRR) except at a micro-dose level.

Further, I usually sleep well on Valdoxan. But, once in a while, for no apparent reason, my sleep is very shallow and choppy. Go figure.

Having said all that, however, Valdoxan is a MIRACLE for me because it stopped my ultra rapid cycling and, thereby, it also stopped my bipolar depression.

As you know, in addition to Valdoxan, I take several meds, vitamins, and supplements. Valdoxan alone would not adequately treat my bipolar II. It is the combo working synergistically.

For example, I always take my meds but, for reasons I do not fully understand, I often neglect taking my vitamins and supplements. If I skip my vitamins and supplements for two or three days in a row, I loose my energy and motivation, and I fall into a low grade depression. As soon as I take my vitamins and supplements, I snap out of it and am back to normal.

My point is that everything I take plays a part in keeping me well. However, if it were not for Valdoxan, I'd still be ultra rapid cycling and, thereby, severely depressed six out of every fifteen days, non-stop over, and over, and over ...

How are you, Alchemy? Any med changes? What does your p-doc say?

Med,

Excellent!

Are you taking 25 mg/night?

I take 12.5 because, in my case, 25 causes way too much daytime sedation (sleepy-tiredness). And, 12.5 mg/night is adequate to stop my ultra rapid cycling and, thereby, stopping my bipolar II depression. As a bonus, I cut my cost in half by taking 12.5 instead of 25.

I live in the U.S., and my insurance company will not pay for Valdoxan since it is not U.S. FDA approved. Therefore, I have to order it online and pay full price.

But, thank the Lord that I can order it online because it has made me well when nothing else has.

Its certainly different to anything else. Lets hope poop-out potential is LOW!
BTW I take 50mg/night and no sedation next day at all. At least none from Valdoxan.
Pitty it costs so much for u but at least 12.5 is enough for you keeping it cheaper.

I do not sense that it is the kind of med that will poop-out. However, I've only been taking Valdoxan for 4 months.

I had start-up side effects for four days; Very vivid dreams and nightmares, choppy sleep, sleeping very near wakefulness, and inner ear vertigo.

I always sleep on my side, alternating from my right side to my left side, and back and forth throughout the night. During my Valdoxan start-up, whenever I turned over to the opposite
side in bed I would get severe vertigo (i.e.; spinning room that will not stop for about 30 - 60 seconds). I hate vertigo!

For some reason, the vertigo was worse when changing from my left side down, to my right side down, as opposed to the visa-versa. Perhaps it is associated with which inner ear is "out of wack". At any rate, all side effects do to Valdoxan, disappeared in four days.

Yup. I just restarted Valdoxan last night after a few months of being off of it. I experienced all of those things. During my last trial, I experienced two 3-day periods of a true antidepressant effect (more than just an increase in mental energy). Unfortunately, after I relapsed the second time, Valdoxan made me feel worse in a way that is reminiscent of my reaction to melatonin. I have since added Abilify and am feeling better on it than off it. I am hoping that returning to Valdoxan with Abilify on-board treats me better than Valdoxan did without the Abilify.

To say that this is a very unpleasant illness is to grossly understate its reality. Every moment can be its own trauma. Perhaps I shouldn't complain so much, though. I am at least more functional and in less psychic pain with the administration of psychotropic drugs and the strategic use of caffeinated coffee. I just hope that Valdoxan doesn't upset this recent improvement. I am perhaps 20% improved over my baseline untreated depression. This is a great relief to me.

I want more.

Scott, did you experience Valdoxan start-up effects at the beginning of your two previous trials? Since you are having them this time around, might this be indicative of potential upcoming effectiveness?

Please remember folks that Valdoxan is a NIGHTIME dosing med. If you take it in the day you will probably get sedation at any dose. I take a full 50mg at night and am refreshed in the morning with 5-6hrs sleep. It is SUPPOSED to be taken at night only. Cant even see what help a melatonin agonist would be during the day anyway.
Not only that, it has a very low half life, so even if you could handle daytime dosing what good will it be at night with low blood levels?
If anyone can back me up, or has a different oppinion lets here it! :)
