Hi folks, I saw my doctor today. We got rid of the escitalopram (5mg). I'm still taking the amitriptyline and I have nortriptyline but I'm not taking it consistently.
I'm wondering if the effexor (37.5) plus the amitriptyline (10mg) will keep the depression at bay without causing apathy.
I feel bad in one sense, because escitalopram had some good qualities to it, but too much of a artificial shallow happy feeling.
I'm hoping the effexor hits something deeper.

>Yes good luck to you! Maybe you can answer this question about effexor as you seem quite intelligent. Just an observation from reading your posts. Not meant to offend you.
I know at really high doses that effexor raises norepinephrine. at even higher doses hits dopamine. So what is there unique about the chemical structure of effexor that it acts as a good ad at low doses? It just can't be serotonin. Is it related to pea or some feel good chemical? I tried it once years ago at 37.5mg and I felt good right away. My p-doc took me off as I seemed to happy. Being bipolar he feared a manic reaction. So than we started with the lamictal.
But anyhow maybe you can shed light on the workings of effexor and good luck again as you've been thru so much suffering. I have lurked at babble and followed every one's posts. You're a very courageous person.

Good luck Link. I'm still on the fence regarding FX, though I'll probably settle for something next week (either FX or Valdoxan, not sure yet). Anyway, I'll be interested to know how you get along on your low dose.

Thats a good question. I don't know what is different about effexor. At low doses its only supposed to affect serotonin but, even here, it has a completely different feel than SSRIs.

good luck. I recall you having a bad reaction to 5mg escitalopram when restarting it a couple of months ago, so thought you had ditched it immediately.
