Hi, I'm back to give an update (success)

Posted by Laney on August 15, 2010, at 14:07:44

I haven't been on babble for probably 1-1/2 to 2 months so I thought now is a good time.

I got on Nortriptyline along with my paxil and things immediately improved. I had to keep increasing the dosage and now I'm on 75mg. along with 20mg. paxil. I am doing this with my doctor's support.

Because this has worked, I believe in the theory of a chemical or neuro or hormonal or whatever you want to call it imbalance.

I believe though that taking paxil for all these years and attempting to go off of it several times did the damage (IMO). I wish I had been exposed to a natural means to deal with the anxiety that I had that led me to paxil. Never had depression without a cause and never took meds for any depression. But.... after paxil pooping out on me after a failed attempt to taper, then I really understood and felt crushing depression. Basically, I feel like paxil changed the chemistry of my brain. I could be wrong but I know me and I know that I have NEVER felt like I did until paxil "pooped out" on me.

I really think docs need to be way more careful in their prescribing. It's just so much easier for them to give a pill and send you on your way. I would absolutely warn everyone I know about going on drugs to begin with. I'm not anti-drug at all but believe there are other things to look into like thyroid and sex hormones, etc. Actually lots of things.

Anyway, I'm doing soooo much better. I am looking forward to the future and not just trying to get through the day. I hated being in my head trying to figure things out if you know what I mean. I am so thankful that it's gone and I can just live.

My heart goes out to all sufferers of mental or mind illness and it really is an illness. I hope and pray that this lasts and that you all find what you need to get better. Depression is no way to live and that's for sure.

Sorry so long. Thanks for listening! Thanks also to all who responded to my inquiries.

Laney

Laney I agree about the thyroid and hormones as my problems began with them as you know. Love Phillipa and congrats so glad it is working for you although didn't realize you went up on the nortrip.

glad to hear that, too.. I thought of you recently and noticed you were gone for a while, and I hoped it wasn't due to my post that advocated spending a little less time on babble when trying out a med, in order to not read too much of failure, and to do other stuff than reading about people who are feeling bad.. but I'm glad to see you're doing fine!!

That's great news. Thanks for sharing!

I think the combination of nortriptyline with ssri has to be one of the most successful protocols available.

I agree with you on the ssris causing problems. I think they cause desired brain changes in the short run, but devastating changes in the long run. But adding a counterpoint to it, such as nortriptyline, somehow gets things back in balance.

Unlike single neurotransmitter meds or "clean" meds, I think your dirty combination not only started working fast as it might have been predicted but will also continue to work more thoroughly than most and for a long time.

I like it when I can say with honesty..."have a good day!" :-)

Laney so zoloft and lamictal didn't help? Did you use them to try to recapture the paxil and then decided on the nortrip. Ps glad your doc finally approved of the combo also. Love Phillipa

Laney your signature says zoloft and paxil but your success says nortriptalline and paxil I'm confused which is working. Was scanning threads and saw this. Thanks Phillipa

Congrats Laney! Its great to hear some success stories. It really keeps us going.

Phillipa, I think he must be taking paxil now because he also said 20mgs which is a paxil dosage but not zoloft. The smallest zoloft pill is 25 mgs.
