Hi, I'm back to give an update (success)

Posted by Laney on August 15, 2010, at 14:07:44

I haven't been on babble for probably 1-1/2 to 2 months so I thought now is a good time.

I got on Nortriptyline along with my paxil and things immediately improved. I had to keep increasing the dosage and now I'm on 75mg. along with 20mg. paxil. I am doing this with my doctor's support.

Because this has worked, I believe in the theory of a chemical or neuro or hormonal or whatever you want to call it imbalance.

I believe though that taking paxil for all these years and attempting to go off of it several times did the damage (IMO). I wish I had been exposed to a natural means to deal with the anxiety that I had that led me to paxil. Never had depression without a cause and never took meds for any depression. But.... after paxil pooping out on me after a failed attempt to taper, then I really understood and felt crushing depression. Basically, I feel like paxil changed the chemistry of my brain. I could be wrong but I know me and I know that I have NEVER felt like I did until paxil "pooped out" on me.

I really think docs need to be way more careful in their prescribing. It's just so much easier for them to give a pill and send you on your way. I would absolutely warn everyone I know about going on drugs to begin with. I'm not anti-drug at all but believe there are other things to look into like thyroid and sex hormones, etc. Actually lots of things.

Anyway, I'm doing soooo much better. I am looking forward to the future and not just trying to get through the day. I hated being in my head trying to figure things out if you know what I mean. I am so thankful that it's gone and I can just live.

My heart goes out to all sufferers of mental or mind illness and it really is an illness. I hope and pray that this lasts and that you all find what you need to get better. Depression is no way to live and that's for sure.

Sorry so long. Thanks for listening! Thanks also to all who responded to my inquiries.

Laney

Have taken paxil for 13 years. Is no longer working. My own diagnosis is depression. Have tried Lamictal, Wellbutrin and Now Zoloft all with the 10mg. paxil.
