So I came off Olanzapine a month ago as I was sick to death of being obsessed with food and my uncontrolled binging. It meant I spent about 10 hours per week in the gym just to maintain my weight of 11stone (which was two stone heavier than my natural weight), meant I couldn't have anything in my flat, including bread and cereal. Meant I woke up at 2am and still ate whatever I had, inc cold tins of baked beans, and tins of tuna, yum, hmm. I came off it because I was/am still suffering from depression so it wasn't doing its job anyway!
I went from 5mg to zilch and for the first few weeks I felt terrible, total flat affect and more depressed. Now I feel only a little worse than I did whilst on Olz, mainly i'm noticing flat affect and a lack of enjoyment on my friday nights out (which I used to enjoy whilst on Olz).
So, I saw my GP today and he prescribed me an AP i'd never heard of called Pericyazine. There is hardly any info on it on the net, but its a Typical AP and dates from 1966. I will start it tomorrow.
Has anyone else used this med, and what were your experiences on it? I will be taking it along with Nardil for depression but as I can't find any info on it for treating depression i'm presuming my GP is giving me it coz he goes with the theory of anxiety/depression being linked praps?

Oh and through diet and exercise I have already lost 10lbs of Olzy fat in three and a half weeks.

Yeah, Neulactil has been around for a long time. It's chemically quite similar to chlorpromazine (Largactil, Thorazine) and the now discontinued thioridazine (Melleril).
What exactly is your GP trying to achieve with this neuroleptic? Neulactil is very rarely prescribed. It's not something which would normally be initiated by a GP. Initiation of Neulactil for depression and flat affect sounds like an exceptionally strange choice. I would seriously question whether your GP is familar with this drug or whether he just selected it at random out of a textbook (or off his computer).
Neulactil and similar drugs are frequently associated with weight gain, which can be severe. There is also a risk of extrapyramidal side effects, including tardive dyskinesia.
Take care.

I seem to recall reading (though I could be wrong AND I don't have references, so...take it with a grain of salt) that pericyazine was considered a "weaker" neuroleptic; less EPS, more sedation. Used for less severely disabled patients and also in conjunction with ongoing antipsychotic treatment (you might, for instance, take Haldol plus neulactil, with the neulactil acting kind of like a sedative/anti-anxiety drug).
I think it is a kind of random drug choice, and I'd be worried about tardive _____ (you fill in the blank--there's lots of tardive syndromes), but at low doses for a short period of time, maybe it wouldn't be so terrible?
Whatever you take....good luck to you.

I would stay away from this one.
What about a low dose of lithium?
You may want to start seeing a board certified psychiatrist and not a general practitioner for the management and prescribing of psychiatric medications.
Also, have you ever tried high doses of fish oil in conjunction with your medications?

ugh. No more peri for me. Took one last night and had a long unbroken sleep, but full of bad dreams, which spoilt it. Woke up late, groggy, with a dry mouth. Several hours later and I still feel groggy. I dont' see the point of me taking this med (I agree with the comments above now!).
This is the end of the thread.
