I'm sure its possibly safe, especially with such a low dose of effexor, but...still. Could you drop the effexor and just go for the 5-htp for a while? that'd be safer, I think.

If I recall correctly, 5-htp is a sort of serotonin precursor...your body uses the pills to create serotonin, which then acts on depression, anxiety, etc. Its kind of like an SSRI, except your body gets a quick boost of serotonin, instead of getting a boost through inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin (and numerous other neurotransmitters).

I'd just be afraid of serotonin syndrome b/c it seems like putting that extra serotonin in your system while using a reuptake inhibitor could be trouble...plus the poster is on such a low dose of effexor that it seems like just trying the 5-htp might be the safest way to go. If the 5-htp fails to help, try a higher dose of the effexor or a different treatment.

5 mg Venlafaxine blocks 50% of serotonin rec.

yes its probably better to wait. next week i am down to 12,5 mg VEN.

I been on 375 mg VEN for several years never going back to ssri/snri.

i read a research-paper that extremely low dose 5mg of VEN was enough to block 50 % of serotonin brain-receptors.

are you really sure it was not 5mg/kg? if it was really so, than my 600mg would seem to be quite needless.. but I know they aren't.. if it's really 5mg, then the curve might rapidly "slow down" when going upwards from 5mg...but still, it would have to slow down incredibly "fast" to warrant doses starting at 37,5mg..

Yes thanks for correction. It sounded a lot...
