Nardil, weight gain, and my new obsession:)

Posted by ace on December 17, 2009, at 6:18:05

Hello all again.....
Hmmmm...I am in a tither (could be much worse but!)

Essentially I have become fixated on health...living a healthy lifestyle and greatly improving my physique.

I have been going to the gym 5 times a week for the last 5 weeks or so. Cardio + weight training
Cardio: 40 mins (average)
Weights: 60 mins (average)

In the past 2 weeks I cut down from 4 chocolates a day (average) to none a day.

I am in a conundrum....

Essentially, Nardil has cause me a 'pot belly'. This has not bothered me in the past, but i am now cultivating this aspect of my life.

Thus far I have lost only 3 KG, I am visibly more toned and have more muscle, but that wretched pot belly is still there.

Speaking to my GP, he advised 1 hour cardio, and strict control of diet.

I will continue intensive gym workoutout and diet vigilance, but I am not so sure that this will rid me of this pot belly. I am naturally a skinny fellow.

I have been contemplating all sorts of things....

*Xanax monotherapy (no weight gain)
*Amisulpride (No weight gain)
*Luvox (The only SSRI I give much credence + no weight gain)
*Geoden (No weight gain)

+

Metformin + Diuretic....

The problem is obviously the fact that I LOVE Nardil and it works so good for me....

If necessary I would do 3 hrs a day at the gym if I could lose the pot belly but stay on my beloved Nardil....

Any thoughts welcome....

And Merry Xmas to you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NEVER GIVE IN!
Ace...................

Mucho LOLs this could be me. Nardil really helps me (not as complete as for you, but it is my wonder drug) but I have put on 30lb. Mind you, due to IBS-C pain I was afraid to eat before so I was well below my 'normal' weight to start with (Nardil even helped loads with the IBS-C pain - what a drug!).

Anyway, I am also fit, toned and pot bellied. AFAIK there's not much lifestyle-wise that can be done about it. For me I crave carbs. The other night I was eating a nice dinner of chicken, roast potatoes and veggies. All I could think about was having multiple bagels for breakfast the following morning. It's crazy! I know I don't need them and that my hunger is induced/synthetic/false/drug-induced but it's hard not to satiate it.

Right now I'm trying not to get too bothered about it and accept it as a cost of the Nardil. I wake 5+ times a night to pee, get headaches, bad muscle fatigue, somnolence too. They're just the (extremely worthwhile) price I pay for not being depressed.

If I find something that works, I'll sure post it.
Cheers,
Pete

Hi Ace!! Flip flop your routine for more cardio verses weight training. On top of this you need to do what the doc said about diet. My husband rides the bike at the gym for about an hour a does weights. He lost 25 and the beer gut is gone. He's not on meds though. Good luck, and don't go off Nardil. Remember what happened last time you did.

Ace nardil is your med. How big is the belly? I do take small doses of luvox no weight gain even when on 250mg for some months years ago. But you compare it to nardil? I'm surprised? I have heard metformin does help with weight gain. Good luck and Happy Holidays to you also!!!! Love Phillipa

I'm not sure if anyone else has had this experience but the Metformin made me much more depressed!! I started taking it for weight gain with Geodon (yes, I'm one of the lucky few who gained weight and a pot belly from Geodon) and I noticed I felt so much better when I didn't take the Metformin (I accidentally skipped it a few days while moving). After that, I did an experiment a few times where I took it for a couple days and would start to feel awful- much more depressed. I would feel better again a few days off the Metformin. Metformin would be the difference between spending the day in tears versus functioning. I decided it wasn't worth it.

Sometimes t3 (20 mcg) plus diet and exercise is very effective for antidepressant weight gain.

I think you just have to give it time. You've only just started working out. Running is really good for pot bellies. Do you like running? Is there a tread mill machine where you work out?

Hey Phillipa:)
It's not extremely bad, but it is noticeable...
It's a hard situation, but it could be a lot worse!
I think I will give the exercise a good 2 more months and then reasses....

Thankyou!

And you have an awesome Xmas too!
