Trazadone question...

Posted by SheilaC on September 12, 2009, at 16:24:07

How heavy on serotonin is Trazadone? I am looking to replace Seroquel with something else for sleep. I'm sick of the bloat and the bitchiness that Seroquel gives me. But I need to sleep.

I don't want anything that is effects serotonin too heavy due to my sensitive bladder (bladder sensitive to serotonin).

Hi SheilaC!

It's a very very weak reuptake inhibitor! It's a much more potent 5ht2a/2c antagonist.
That's probably why it's not used as an antidepressant often at all but as a potent sleep aid.
So especially at lower doses you probably won't experience any 5HT reuptake blocking effects!
I'm using trazodone since 2 years with good success. I think it's a slo great that there seems to be no weight gain with Trazodone (but it's making me a bit foggy during the day that's why I wanted to discontinue it, also the fact that it's metabolized to mcpp isn't that nice, but I like it much more than Seroquel!!)

Good luck to you!Insomnia is a really terrible thing..

And no diabetes or the other movement disorders that can occur on atypical antipsychotics. Good Choice. Phillipa
