my pdoc has presrcibed me prozac + nortriptyline after i told him about this research, and we mutually decided it might be a better bet than effexor (which was the next step he wanted to take, after my having failed on various SSRI's). just wondering if anyone's tried the two drugs in combination? i tried prozac once @ 10mg and had insomnia + agitation. am a bit scared cos never advanced beyond mono-drug-therapy.

No more luvox? I'm scared to give it up was told to up it. I tried prozac at 20 when first out and wasn't depressed at the time but experienced the same as you. Well I wish you luck with your new combo. Andy maybe l0mg will work lower dose. Good luck seriously. Please let us know how it goes. Phillipa

Prozac+Nortriptyline was a very common thing with my GP a few years ago. He had hundreds of patients on it. These days he seems to have suckered to the pharm reps and is more into adding the antipsychotics instead.

I have proven to be allergic to tricyclics so I can't comment other than that. I was on prozac for years, and nortriptyline twice briefly, and I can see how there would be good synergy with these meds.

thanks bleauberry. based on your recommendation i actually brought up milnacipram and my pdoc said he would be happy to prescribe it (despite having never heard of it) but admitted he would more comfortable with me trying this combo first, just because he had a working knowledge of both drugs. i realise i shouldn't act to please him but considering how great he's been, and the fact that i'm so comfortable in his care, i thought i'd try the known entities first, just because they're within his 'jurisdiction' (which is sort of a condition of accepting that care) ... if that makes sense ...

g-g-g- unit well done you for making such an informed descision and biting the bullet with this combo. Do you mind my asking where you live? I am assuming you are outside the US and UK or am i wrong? I'm not aware of milnacipran being licensed for depression here in England. Either way best of luck on the meds and let us know how you get on.
