I'm Shaking with Tremors after 8 weeks of Lexapro

Posted by garyengelm on February 29, 2008, at 20:33:28

I titrated up to 20mg per my MD's order. It has really helped for my depression, but my anxiety seems to be different now. I feel internal shaking and when I bring a cup or food to my mouth, my hands shake, but I feel shaky all over even though you can't see it. I just went down to 10mg today per the Psych docs suggestion.

She thinks I have BP II and I've been taking low dose Respirdal 0.0625 (very low). I'm also on Klonopin 1mg twice/day and Xanax as needed. She had me on low dose Depakote too. I would open a capsule and take half the sprinkles of 125mg capsule. I am very med sensative and couldn't handle the sedation, so thats why the low doses. Now she thinks I should ditch the Depakote and try Lamictal as it's not as sedating.

Anyone ever experience this shaking/nervousness which is internalized. It's not the terrible anxiety I felt before, but it's a form of anxiety combined with sever nervousness. Hard to explain.

Thanks in advance...

Gary

Gary sounds like akethesia. Goggle it and post back and let us know if you think that is what it is. Sorry your're feeling so miserable. Love Phillipa

Just wondering how you're doing with the tremors and internal shakiness. The same thing happens to me.

I agree with Philippa, I think it's Akathisia. Us bipolars (II included) do not do very well on SSRIs. You don't take enough of a mood stabilizier to offset the Lexapro, if it were going to offset it. You say it is hard to describe how you feel. It's true, it's the weirdest feeling. You feel agitated but it's all on the inside. Do you feel scared? Do you feel angry? Do you feel like you want to climb the walls or get out of your skin? I personally am never taking anti-depressants again. I tried Lexapro, in particular. On top of everything above, I would clench my teeth when sleeping. I was chasing the shaking, visible or imagined, with benzos. Nothing could calm me.
