Seroquel and Lexapro

Posted by Bonnie_CA on February 12, 2008, at 19:09:30

Right now, here is my list of meds.

10 mg Lexapro
100 mg Lamictal (this is a change, was on 200 mg)
.25 mg - 1 mg Xanax (he is just allowing a higher dose for bad days, I generally take .5 mg when things are stable)
BCP
50 mg Seroquel (new med)

I was reading about how Seroquel works, and it kind of seems like it would be canceling out the Lexapro. Am I understanding the mechanism of Seroquel correctly? My pdoc just didn't take me off of Lexapro yet so I wouldn't have too many changes at once.

BTW, my Rx is Bipolar 2, rapid cycling, anxiety and panic disorders.

The Seroquel is augmenting the Lexapro. I wouldn't cut out either drug. Sounds like a good cocktail to me. You also have the Lamictal there as a mood stabilizer which works differently than the Seroquel, but basically aiming at the same goal to keep you from cycling. Then you have the benzo on board as needed. I like the regimen and I don't see anything canceling out the other.

Think so? I read the Seroquel is a serotonin antagonist (among other things), and Lexapro is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor... maybe the Seroquel is preventing too much serotonin from being made, and the Lexapro is making the uptake more efficient?

I'm just wondering... and hoping for more input from fellow babblers. Thanks for your response Gary.
