Hi Phillipa. A few posters (Henryo, Scott, Fan, etc.) have mentioned that they have benefited from Deplin. Merck certainly thinks it works. There is also a theoretical basis for thinking that it *should* work for some people. As with all psychotropics, your mileage may vary. But clearly, some people benefit substantially. You may be one of them. I suppose you won't know until you try it for a few weeks and see what happens.

I don't think Deplin is dangerous, certainly no more so than many other psychotropics, and probably no more than Valium or Luvox. If I were using Deplin, however, I would also take a vitamin B12 supplement, since it is known that folic acid may mask signs of vitamin B12 deficiency. I don't know whether Deplin carries that same risk, since it is not quite the same as folic acid, but that's what I would do, to be on the safe side, until I have better information available to me.

So if I were in your position, I would try the Deplin for a few months, and see what happens. If it doesn't work, then you've lost a couple of bucks. If it works, then at least some your problems are solved, and you can carry on using it, and maybe supplement with vitamin B12.

> Okay am on the Deplin 7.5 no anxiety so does that mean it isn't going to work?

~~~ I don't think so.... AND, the debatable point of side effects and startup effects giving an indication as to effectiveness can be a no win situation. Some will say there's a relationship and others will say it's a reason to discontinue a med.
I suggest taking it as your directed. I also suggest talking with your doc about getting to a therapeudic dosing of an AD as Deplin *currently* is trouted as an adjunct therapy. I would think a decent dosing of an AD would be important.
> Any answers?
~~~ Plenty, but that's all I'll add for now. (Smile)

phillipa.

i don't think the lack of axiety is going to tell you accurately whether it is going to work or not. What happens for some doesn't ahppen for others. wait and wee how it works for you.

Do you recognize this as a pattern of behavior? » Phillipa

This reminds me of when you tried Cymbalta the second time: you read about people's reactions here, and that colored your own experience. You've said yourself that your first try of Cymbalta was smooth sailing to a highish dose -- but once you read about people's experiences here, and how "med sensitive" some of them were, etc, your anxiety over starting went through the roof, and you had a miserable time with it. You even posted that you thought it was a smooth trip the first time because you "didn't know how strong it was" or something to that effect.

Now you've been reading the posts about Deplin, and whether or not it's anything more than a folic acid supplement. (It is, by the way, more than a folic acid supplement.) You've been reading that maybe it's not worth it, so you're questioning what you're experiencing.

Let me say it a last time: mileage varies. Maybe it'll be great for you, maybe it won't. There's only one way to find out, and that's trying it.

Maybe the lack of anxiety means that it's already working for you. Ever think of that?

Racer actually it was the first time I took it I found babble when it was first released and followed our Scott so I decided after three months to just go off it. At the time living at the beach and only one pdoc and he handed me a bag with a months supply each visit. It was when I moved here that I couldn't tolerate it as I did not like that pdoc at all when I questioned 30mg one week then 60mg one week then 90mg one week then 120mg I said the manufacturer says that 60mg is max and higher doses are no better. Don't think he liked me questioning him and he said I don't care. Just take it. That's when couldn't tolerate it. But so far the Deplin is fine on the 7.5mg but then my thyroid is also lower so a lot of factors play into it. Plus I'm a pro vitamin or food supplement person and if it's water soluable know can't get too much. So that's a really good thing for me. Phillipa. Thanks for remembering when we've been around we kind of learn each others stories. Nice I think.

Hey phillipa!

sorry i havent been here lately, FULL TIME WORK, and 7 hours of school. But Deplin causes, from what i've expereinced more energy not in a "mood" wise way. I was "expecting" it too maybe boost prozac, it didnt, it increased the feeling of energy that i have. Its not a stimulant, you can take a nap on deplin! ha~

Deplin by itself, really..........is just like taking ALOT of Vitamen B. Not exactly like it.... its not energy boosting all the time. But it can get your antidepressant going more "forward" for you, maybe thats why drug compaines have said in "increases" the effect of antideprssants. It doesnt in my opionion, it increases energy. Which i was a bit irrtible the first day i took it.

But its good your on something, and phillipa i havent checked my email, but how are you doing with your health? I havent got a chance to check my email.

Later, hey and thanks for mentionion me Jamal!
