I am currently on 200mg of lamictal. I have been at that dosage for the past four days. I have heard that sometimes lamictal can cause a mental fog. It seems to have the reverse effect on me. My mental clarity seems to be heightened in a sense that I don't have a mental fog. Is this common?

It is common with many anticonvulsives, yes.
Not common with Lamictal, it is one of the few
anticonvulsives that some people report having no side effects. Except for not having seizures anymore I cannot tell I am on Lamictal.

How many milligrams of lamictal do you take? I know that the antidepressant effects take place between 100mg and 200mg. Is there any benefits if I were to exceed 200mg?

That's what happened to me no side effects except the horrible salivation had to go off but it was not causing any mental side effects although I only did get to 50mg. Phillipa

300 mgs, for seizures, which is a low dose.

GSK did not test above 200mg for the indication of bipolar and Lamical is off label for depression so
there is not strong evidence about the limits for effectiveness in depression.From what I read of other peoples experiences with lamictal and depression, 100-200 mgs is a common dose range. My experience is that lamictal started having an antidepressant effect at 25-50 mgs and did continue past 200 mgs.
Females may need to take more lamictal than males, female hormones effect lamictal levels.

My pdoc confirmed exactly what you wrote. Anything above 200mg for patients with bipolar or depression/rapid cyclers doesn't do more and hasn't been proven to be more effective.

Yes lamictal can cause cognative problems. Although, the antidepressant effect may partially mask cognative problems.

Balance problems. Started falling down and the doctor I went to see for M.S. said it was the medication doing it.
