Is this too many meds?

Posted by Sheilac on July 18, 2007, at 8:37:24

This is my new med list and so far it is working (which is the point), it just seems like a lot of meds. Is it?

Depakote 250 ER (taken with dinner)

Trazodone 50mg (taken at night for sleep)

Klonopin .50 mg (taken at night or during the day for anxiety)

Wellbutrin 150XL (taken in morning to counter Traz sleepiness)

Sheila if it's working that's the most important thing and compared to others here doesn't sound like a lot lucky and happy they work for you. Love Phillipa

Actually, that's not true. Trazodone is the only drug on that list which affects serotonin. Depakote targets calcium and sodium channels, as well as GABA. Wellbutrin is inhibits the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine. And klonopine is a benzodiazepine -- which does increase serotonin, but not enough to be a problem.

In answer to the original question, no, I wouldn't say that's too many meds. They're all targeting different symptoms, and doing their jobs in different ways, so there's not a lot of overlap.

Hope that helps.

Dropped Depakote...

I ended up dropping the Depakote after 3 days because it was making me depressed. Weird. But, the Trazodone is really helping me sleep and feel good (only 50mg so far). Plus, the Wellbutrin during the day helps to keep me awake and functioning. I guess that will be my new combo: Trazodone, Wellbutrin, Klonopin as needed.

Do you need a mood stabilizer? If so, dropping the Depakote might not be the best idea...

What does your doctor say?
