Lexapro - What Dose is the best?

Posted by deniseuk190466 on March 8, 2007, at 9:25:06

Hi,

This psychiatrist I've just started to see has prescribed Lexapro for me and I've just started taking it. The thing is she has only prescribed 10mg a day.

It took 40mg/60mg a day of Paxil to lift the depression so I'm not sure I'm on a high enough dose of Lexapro.

What are other peoples experiences with this drug, what dose was the most effective? And How long did it take to work? I'm pretty treatment resistent though.

I'd be grateful for feedback.

Thanks.....Denise

Hello!

No, 10mg is pretty much standard dose. Different drugs have different dose ranges.

Let us know how it goes!!

Kind regards

I have been on 10 mg of Lexapro for quite some time and have been on the low side. My PDOC just raised the dosage to 20 mg to see if that helps. I'm really hoping to see some improvement soon, I'm so tired of being depressed. If that dosage doesn't work after 6 weeks (such a long wait I hate it) then she said she'd let me try Wellbutrin. We'll have to wait and see...good luck to you!

Whoa - 10 mgs is the normal dose?
I'm on 40 mgs. Higher doses are supposed to help with OCD and anxiety.
I was on 20 mgs for a while, but had much obsessional thinking, anxiety, ect.
40 mgs seems to be a good dose for me.
I'm also on xanax and lamictal.

6 weeks?

it does not take 6 weeks to know if the lexapro is working
you get a pretty fast take on it

Meri,

Will do. Have been on 10mg just over a week, I feel a slight improvement over being on nothing at all but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

If I'm going to respond, I usually know in the first week or two so I really want to raise the dose.

I would ring my psychiatrist to ask her if I can raise the dose but they already see me as being non-compliant and impatient so I'll just be endorsing their opinion of me.

I hate all of this waiting.

Hi,

How long were you on 10mg and how did you feel on that dose?

Also, how long did it take for you to respond to 20mg?

Thanks....Denise

Thanks Phillipa (nm)

Hi Elanor,

Can you elaborate, what do you mean by wicked crash and burn?

Thanks....Denise

Elanor,

I think people vary in how long they take to respond to a drug. I'm always very impatient because in the past I used to respond to Antidepressants really quickly, in a matter of days.

I get frustrated because I'm sure I know within the first week or so whether or not I'm going to respond to a particular drug and at a particular dose but the Psychiatrists seem to disagree with me because the standard rule seems to be 6 to 8 weeks.

How long did it take you to respond to Lexapro, at what dose? And what other drugs had you tried prior to lexapro and with what response?

Thanks....Denise
