Lexapro

I am new to Lexapro and was wondering how soon I would start to feel some type of relief from the anxiety. I am not sure I can wait for months to start feeling better.

Hi,
I have been on Lexapro for about a year. I am major depression / major socail and GA anxiety. It has been tolerable physically but not much help for depression and NO help for anxiety. I know they say some of the newer SSRI have a benefit for anxiety, but they sure don't for me...and the Lexapro has really pooped out, like the others, I am more depressed than ever...seeing a new Dr. tomorrow. I don't know what they will suggest as I have been on all of the newer class of meds and combos...all have either made me very sick, did nothing or pooped out...the Benzos have been the only med that has helped with anxiety and the docs are getting more and more apprehensive about prescribing them...good luck

But the benzos have been replaced with atypicalantipsychotics and the article yesterday said seroquel can cause depression so maybe the docs will take another look at benzos. I've been on them for over 30 years and have not increased my dose and they work for anxiety.

I think a lot of docs give a benzo for the one or two or weeks of lexapro start-up. Good luck hope it works for you. Love Phillipa

Not to discourage you, but lexapro over 6 weeks did nothing for my depression except make it worse, and it created more anxiety. I had never had a panic attack in my life until about a week after starting lexapro. And that was at just 5mg. I switched from lexapro straight to zoloft and I swear my anxiety vanished in less than 3 days. Paxil was good for my anxiety too.

Lots of people do well with lexapro. Some of us don't.

Klonopin..thank the good Lord..and a sleep aid..tempazepam..She also has started me titrating up on Effoxer XR and kept me on the Lexapro....and has promised to keep close tabs on my progress and work with me with any further changes....not like the old dr...here take this...tough it out......I got lucky....I think I stated before I received no anxiety relief from the SSRI's, which the nurse said is common, but some do......

one thing I noticed with the lexapro was that it took a long time to kick in. For me, about 2months. It kicked in and kicked out in the same amount of time for me.

Hi there!

I started to respond to Lexapro almost immediately (within about a week).

I had/have a very positive reaction to Lexapro, but a lot of people don't.

I find the calming effect to be extremely helpful with my anxiety and panic disorder, and my overall episodes of severe depression have become fewer and far between.

Good luck, I hope you respond well!
