Ideas for energizing meds please!!!!

Posted by Crazy Horse on January 24, 2007, at 21:49:34

I think i need to go off Lyrica for awhile (maybe a month) a 'drug holiday' sort of thing to get it to work for me again. In the meantime i need ideas for an energizing replacement med. No stimulants..my pdoc won't do them, and i'm already on wellbutrin and it's not doing much. Any ideas????????

How much Wellbutrin ? I can tell you 450mg Wellbutrin SR was pretty stimulating to the extreme, but then as they say, your miles may vary.

you could try seeing if added lamotrigine has any synergy with the wellbutrin in you. or even add a cholinesterase inhibitor.

don't know what it would be like having galantamine and wellbutrin competing for the nicotinic receptors, but maybe that sort of thing is desirable as a balance? there is aricept otherwise which is subtler and less stimulating (to me), it kind of opens up your head in a way you don't realize at first. it can work okay with caffeine, but sometimes NO. i guess thats a usual as caffeine is tempermental. galantamine was the more stimulating by far and it has a bit of a track record on pubmed being used for executive/cognitive dysfunction in bipolar now. :) it makes you much more 'forward' and 'there' in nature, it can cause more milder paranoia-like feelings at first, but you find you deal with it quicker than you would otherwise. i did soo much today thanks to it.

lately my life has been a random off and on mix of lamo, wellbutrin, now galantamine instead of aricept, estrogen, magnesium, minocycline and flagyl.

If you need energy-inducing meds, and your doc won't do them...is it possible to switch to a new doc? Stimulants are really the meds for that.

MAO inhibitors are energizing in some, particularly tranylcypromine and selegiline/EMSAM.

Modafinil/provigil is really pretty inoffensive in terms of abusability and such--I can't imagine why your doc would be unwilling to use it!

Provigil has already been mentioned and I second the motion.

If your doctor puts it in the same class as other stimulants and says you can't have it, then he is not worth paying.

I would be careful if pdoc says no. I was on a trial of Provigil added to AD and I had a paradoxal reaction to Provigil--confused, disoriented, memory and concentration worse, and I said and did things I would not ordinarily say or do. Glad my pdoc would not give me a prescription as I was not aware of how badly I was at the time.
