Just wondering what everyone out there thought the average number of meds bipoolar folks are on? Seems like most people, including myself tend to be on a bix mix of meds.

In reply to Bipolar - how many meds are average?, posted by Jimmyboy on January 25, 2007, at 23:50:21
I must be the exception JB. Most of my life I have been just on the Lithium alone. The last four or five years I have been (to my regret) on Zyprexa 5 mg. I am coming off that now, very slowly, very gradually, very carefully. The days when I was on Lithium alone were the most productive and I think the happiest of my adult life. I was on 800 mg controlled release, then later and now 900 mg.
I reckon taking too many different tablets sucks but then some people need them and benefit from them.

> JBHey there...
One thing I have found is every Bipolar person is different- some will do well on just a mood stabilizer (like Lithium), some have to have a mix of a mood stabilizer and an anti depressant, some also need a benzo- like Xanax, for anxiety and panic attacks, and some also need an anti-psychotic for when they are coming off a mania... and still some need more of a mix for other symptoms...
Right now, I'm on Lamictal (mood stabilizer) and going back on Paxil (AD)... and am weaning off Seroquel (anti-psychotic) from a mania that was slipping into.... most of the time I'm also taking Xanax or Klonopin for anxiety, but I'm not taking those right now....
