Im on the Emsam patch and I have good things to say about it. If you have a lethargic depression, the patch will most certainly give you a boost of energy. I felt it within the first day.
HOWEVER, I am challenged more by anxiety than depression, or so I think. I was wondering if anyone taking Nardil had it help with GAD, or any anxiety disorders. Please share your story, Michael

Michael that's what my pdoc said to me no good for anxiety too stimulating. Ed and Scott both recomended nardil to me but I don't want an MAOI. The patch was different you can see it. Love Phillipa

I've been taking Nardil with 1mg of clonazepam for most of the past ten years. I take this combo for treatment resistant atypical depression with social and generalized anxiety disorder. It is the only thing that has worked for me with over forty different medication combination trials. The Nardil does work for generalized anxiety for me. My palms used to sweat so much I would have to wipe them off before shaking someone's hand. It helps with the internal anxiety component also. No meds are perfect but this combination has been the best for me.

My pdoc keeps saying that Nardil works for social anxiety and not GAD, yet I keep reading posts like yours which say it also helps GAD

The antidepressant drug phenelzine produces antianxiety effects in the plus-maze and increases in rat brain GABA.

Department of Psychiatry, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada.Research on the effects of antidepressant/ antipanic drugs in animal models of anxiety has yielded equivocal results, even after chronic drug regimens. In contrast, we found that the antidepressant/antipanic drug phenelzine, given acutely, produced a clear anxiolytic effect in the elevated plus-maze, a widely-used animal model of "anxiety" that is primarily sensitive to benzodiazepine-type anxiolytics (e.g., diazepam). Furthermore, the effective dose of phenelzine (15 mg/kg) administered to rats was associated with more than a 2- fold increase in whole brain levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), whereas an ineffective dose of phenelzine (5.1 mg/kg) did not significantly change GABA levels. The N-acetylated metabolite of phenelzine, N2-acetylphenelzine, produced neither an anxiolytic effect in the elevated plus-maze nor a significant change in whole-brain levels of GABA. However, both phenelzine and N2-acetylphenelzine potently inhibited monoamine oxidase, a mechanism commonly thought to be involved in the therapeutic effects of monoamine oxidase inhibitors such as phenelzine in the treatment of depression in humans. These results suggest that the mechanism whereby phenelzine produces anxiolytic effects in the plus-maze model is unique to a facilitatory action on brain levels of GABA, in contrast to classical benzodiazepines, which produce anxiolytic effects by enhancing the affinity of the GABAA-receptor for GABA.

Are you still on the Emsam patch? Do you have Generalized Anxiety Disorder or something else? How does your med affect it?

Ugotta...my diagnosis was depressionbut has been amended to include long standing ADD which was left behind well hidden under the cloak of depression.
I used to have social anxiety as well but the main diagnosis is TRD of 30years duration. Only drugs that helped were Nardil, Marplan and now Emsam.
Nardil is a great drug if it works and it did for me back in the early 90's. I was going to retry it but pdoc wanted to try Emsam, which is my current med, along with recent(today) addition of low dose stim to try and rein in ADD symptoms.
