1ST NITEON EFFEXOR 3 HRS SLEEP :(

Posted by bluenose on July 5, 2006, at 8:25:42

Hey guys, this sucks. I have a life-long sleeping disorder that I gave up a great job at an airline to recover from exactly a year ago. Sleep-wise, I got better, not totally but a lot. the depression still remained, thus the Effexor which I started yesterday. The sleeping disorder is back in full swing. If this is the way it's gonna be I'd rather be depressed. I know, I should be patient, but I can see what's comming. The sleep will get worse. I'll get more depressed, even on meds because I'm exhausted and then I'll have to take sleeping pills to counteract the Effexor and next thing you know I'll be a laboratory mouse with an ear on my back. Funny how yesterday in my first entry I was scared but hopeful. Now I'm exhausted and miserable. Boo :(

Is there any hope?

Hi, Blue,

Effexor, at the beginning, did mean that I slept less and lighter, but that effect lessened over time. (Perhaps, too, my reaction was different: I was in graduate school so I was like--yes! more time for homework!) So, yes, there *is* hope.

The first night on Effexor, I don't think I even dozed.

That lasted, as I recall, about two and a half nights. And while I wasn't asleep, I was still calmer, so it was restful insomnia.

Once I got past the initial insomnia, of two or three days, it helped my sleep. The initial day or two of insomnia really and truly was NOTHING like what the drug did for the remaining few years I took it.

I hope that gives you hope. And that it helps you find the patience to stick with it.

Drop it while you still can. Effexor insomnia persisted. Effexor induces sleep abnormalities in normal vaulenteers.

You might try remeron. A low dose TCA too might be a better option.

So that's why I had all the leg twitching when on cymbalta since they are related. Glad I stopped when I did. It did nothing anyway and no withdrawal. Sometimes I find it hard to belive that people have withdrawal on ad's But I guess they do. Me I always feel better off the meds. Love Phillipa
