I NEED HELP FINDING HELP FOR MY HUSBAND

Posted by vaisforlovers on June 1, 2006, at 21:01:47

I haven't been here for over a year. I just tried to explain why I hadn't been here and erased it cuz it seemed totally irrelevant. I just can't ask what I mean and my posts are probably really confusing.
I came here right after I started Nardil and ya'll helped a bunch. I am now on Parnate and have some ?'s. I am on 10mg 4xday. My depression, rather major symptoms - staying in recliner and watching TV all day etc are gone. But my interest in reading and gardening never came back. I have been on Mao's since 2002 as I was on my way to ECT, because my dr. could not find any drug that would work and I had been in the black hole since 1995 after trying about 21 SSRI's. He had never precribed it, but I knew somehow that it would work. My ? anyone have any suggestions, advice anything that might help me?
Another problem that has just showed his ugly face is now my husband is depressed. I have thought that was the problem with him when he stopped doing anything around the farm that wasn't absolutely necessary. He finally admitted it. When I was so sick, he didn't believe in depression and said all I had to do was "depress the button" and I would be fine. How ironic, but I feel sorry for him because for my husband to admit something is wrong was in itself, a miracle. I don't know how many people remember me, but our marriage was awful and I even had made that step and saw a lawyer 2 weeks ago. He just has a problem because he is a pilot and the FAA is so strick. But he is so bad, he doesn't even want to fly and feeling better is the first priority. I have tried to find info/forums with pilots involved to ask this question, but finally gave up.(all this just happened a couple of hours ago, but I refuse to let him get as bad as I did.) Does anyone have any advice on how to find a forum that deals with something like this? I have so much trouble asking/looking for something on the internet because I guess my wording is all wrong. I keep trying to ask on Google, but figured you guys might have an answer for me. I hope I am not too much "off the topic" to ask, but I need some help please. Don't get me wrong, he just said getting well is the main thing, but I hate to see him lose his dream -flying and he just bought a new plane. I hope someone might help me,but I think I may forget all about the flying part and find help for him. That is a problem too. We live in the boonies and I couldn't even find a psychiatrist after mine retired that wasn't 1000 miles away!
That's enough. I would be grateful for any help.
Thank you
Joanne

I know of no groups for pilots but deprssion is the same for everyone. So what doctor do you see? Can he see that one? He would have to a doctor would could prescirbe a med for him if he indead is depressed. How is his general health? Love Phillipa

Hi
Something to be careful of is what meds the FAA will allow him to take and still fly. Good Luck! PS-What state are you in?

Someone already mentioned it, but I think it would be wise to get your hands on a list of FAA meds that are not allowed for pilots, and maybe a list of meds that are allowed. From those lists, you can then do your own research on the web and right here at pbabble. Armed with your own research, you and a regular doctor can make some pretty smart decisions.

Don't overlook common things that work just as well, almost as well, and sometimes better than meds, like...st johns wort.
