tramadol

Quick comment and question. I am taking one 37.5 tramadol a day. Have been for a couple of months. I am really suffering from hot flashes and sweats and understand it could be from this drug. Can I cut the 37.5 in half? Or is that not a good idea?

Hi MidnightBlue,

37,5 mg seems very low for me (I take about 90 mgs (very seldom up to 150 mgs) and 15 mgs Prozac per day).
By the way I never got any of the side effects you mention; the only side effect when I use too much is drowsiness and trouble concentrating; therefor I like to avoid that.
Also there is no tolerance developing (with me at least).
Are what you are taking capsules ?
To divide I open up a capsule and at my guess I take some of the white powder out and close the capsule again (and take it) so the 90 mgs are not really accurate.
Tramadol is also available as drops where I live (the Netherlands; 10 drops equal 50 mg).
That might be the better way to measure what you are taking.
Cheers,

Robert

Hi,
I think I am VERY sensitive to meds. Within 1 1/2 hours I'm having hot flashes. They seem to "wear off" the next day and come back with the next dose.

These are caplets? A solid tablet shaped like a capsule.

Hi MB

>I am taking one 37.5 tramadol a day

Wow that's low. A lot of people need 50-100mg four times a day.

Ed,

I'm taking it as much to help with pain as anything else. And that plus a measly 200 Celebrex isn't much. But I am still having sweats when I take that low a dose. My insurance really doesn't want me to take it at all. I'm allowed 40 pills in a 30 day period even though my doc said I could take 4-5 a day.

My blood pressure is down so I'm down to almost nothing on that.

Hi MB

Have you tried combining Celebrex with acetaminophen (four times a day)?

Ed, I used to take acetaminophen twice a day on most days (in addition to 200 Celebrex)and sometimes three times, but my doc didn't want me taking that much! I think two 500mg of acetaminophen is the max he wants me to take! I may try dropping the tramadol in a few days. Right now I'm taking a break from Ambien (tonight is night three) so it will start working better. Right now I'm waking up 3-4 times each night, having nightmares, and hot flashes. SO not fun! When I take the Ambien at least I don't remember my dreams! And at least for a while I'm only up 1-2 times a night.

Sigh........

Hi MB

Your doc is silly. Acetaminophen has an excellent safety record when taken *properly* - which is more than can be said for a lot of the other drugs s/he prescribes.

Here are the rules for taking acetaminophen safely. Stick to them carefully and you will be fine..........

1. Never take more than 1000mg per dose
2. Always leave at least 4 hours between doses.
3. Never taken more than 4000mg in any 24 hour period

Overdosing on acetaminophen damages the liver. Therapeutic doses of acetaminophen do not damage the liver, even after long term use.
