Hi Willy

>From what i remember reading ED on this drug was unlike most stimulants people seemed to noticed this most after a week or two,and it was an overall mood lift.....give it more time ive always been intersted in it myself.

I've heard that too. I'm gonna take it for a while to see whether an effect develops over time.

Kind regards

Hi Meri!

>Have you ever been referred to a pdoc by your GP (or know anyone else who has)?

I saw a pdoc from the age of 10 until a few months ago (I'm 21). I'm not seeing a pdoc at the moment though. I'm supposed to have an appointment in December to 'see how I'm doing' or something.

>Hope you're doing okay and not getting too chilly!

LOL thank you :-) It's very frosty round here. I skidded on a sheet of ice yesterday - could have been NASTY. I didn't fall though - just.

Hope you are well :-)

Kind regards

Ed

Hey Eddy, you didn't find it upset your stomach at all? Not in a big way, perhaps more like drinking black tea on an empty stomach.
I can't specifically remember flushing of the face and ears, though that's something I get a bit too. My nutritional doctor used that, among other things, as an indicator that I was reactive, and indeed my IGE is very high.

I took adrafinil for over a year, so I can share a little bit of how it went. It pretty much went the way I've seen it described on the web...after two weeks you become more active and interested, after 3 weeks more talkative, after 4 weeks depression lifts...something along those lines. Different variations and different timeframes, but basically something like that.

I actually felt some mild speedish effects right from the beginning, then they faded, and then all the things described above gradually happened in a 2 to 4 week period. I was taking 600mg at first, and then after it kicked in I was able to maintain at 300mg. It never pooped out. And when I finally quit, thinking I didn't need it any more, I did a relatively fast taper compared to most meds, and there were no withdrawals. Nice.

Eddy, maybe the citalopram keeps you somewhat immune to the effects of Adrafinil. I didn't think it was subtle, although there might have been interactions (Hydergine? people say they can't notice that either). Anyway once I felt pretty bad on it. Maybe I'm med sensitive, or have heightened expectations or something.

How's it going now?

Hi Meri-Tuuli,

> 'The metabolites of Adrafinil contains sulfur, and can easily be detected by a peculiar odour of the urine of the person who has taken it.'

I take modafinil and get that same odour. Maybe its something to do with the drug 'class'. One of Adrafinil's metabolites is actually modafinil itself so maybe thats it. And maybe its the modafinil that is bonded to sulfur during the breakdown/excretion process.

> Which is rather interesting. I take b-vitamins and one of them (niacin?) makes my pee bright yellow.

Buy the way, assuming you take a vitamin B 'complex', it is vitamin B2 (riboflavin) that causes the yellow urine colour rather than niacin.

Hi

Today, I took 300mg Olmifon four times a day. I'm not sure whether I noticed any effects....... probably not, although I did get a mild caffeine-like feeling at one point in the afternoon. I also felt a bit nervous, although I had quite a stressful day a work.

Maybe someone can help clarify the legal / procedural status of this medication in the US? I know that it has never been licensed as the FDA in the US. Does this mean that it falls in the same category as a food supplement like vitamin B? Or do things that are medications in other places (e.g. anti-depressants, antibiotics) but not used in the US for market/profit reasons have a different status than herbs/vitamins/antioxidants?

My understanding is that Provigl metabolizes to Adrafinil, Provigil is patented in the US and Adrafinil isn't, Adrafinil is much cheaper, according to some a "better medication" but also has liver effects that Provigil doesn't share. A single isomer version of Provigil is coming out but I don't know if there is any medical driver for this or if its purely a profit vehicle. I have never seen Adrafinil for sale in a GNC in the US - is there a reason why? I don't want to continue this vein further and risk crossing the line of acceptable psychbabble conversations.

Some clarity here would be useful. Dr Bob - can you share anything about the legal/procedural issues surrounding meduications in this status? Are there other examples?

Hi alohashirt,

I have recently baught a food supplement - Gaba from a website which is from part of the 'yahoo/stores/shops/ Its an online company (no names mentioned*) which is American and also I baught Adrafinil from there (along with the gaba)

Package arrived - Airmail from the United states postal service from Lawrenceville GA.

I know that Adrafinil is a French smart drug, but its definitely available in the US and sold along side vitamins and supplements from my knowledge...the company I baught from has been operating since 1995.

Not sure on the legal status in the US, but yahoo don't mind having a US/online shop in their stores selling it along with vitamins etc..

Kind regards

Nick

hi there Ed

hmmm. I noticed a definite effect on my cognitive processes at 50 mg of modafinil. I have no idea how much adrafinil is converted to modafinil in vivo vs. inactive metabolites. I experienced insomnia from 50-100 mg, necessitating a slow titration.

Subjects in a clinical test of a single dose of 200 mg modafinil reported a subjective increase in 'excitement.' These were subjects with adult ADHD.

I wonder how much of the difference is one between adrafinil and its not-well-known metabolism (unlike amitriptyline for example, much of adrafinil is quickly converted to inactive metabolites) and also between whatever susceptibilty you might have to the drug's effects. Saying, for instance, that a drug is a 'stimulant' is only to say that it is clinically effective in keeping about 70 percent of narcolepsy patients awake. (AD response rates also are in the 60-70 percent range.)

One investigator claims that 300 mg modafinil = 20 mg d-amphetamine in terms of wakefulness promotion. I tend to agree with this, in that it is generally accepted that methylphenidate 20 mg = 10 mg d-amphetamine, roughly, and 300 mg modafinil is somewhere between 30 mg MPH (or 15 mg d-AMPH) and 60 mg MPH in terms of duration of wakefulness induction for me.

Hi Z

A friend sent me ten 100mg Provigil tablets yesterday. I took 100mg this afternoon. I feel a bit jittery, a bit like I've taken some caffeine. Could be a 'placebo' effect though. I get the impression Provigil is going to be better than Olmifon. I'm starting to wonder whether I'm incapable of metabolising adrafinil to modafinil or something!

Kind regards

Ed
