response to effexor = response to cymbalta ?!

Posted by ben on June 14, 2005, at 10:44:00

I responded best to Effexor XR after having tried a lot of other AD`s. The problem is that I cant get rid of seeing the Effexor pooping out. Meanwhile I doubbled the dose to 450 mg/day without any real improvement. Could Cymbalta (because it is related to Effexor) be an option and how could I switch to Cymbalta (directlxy or overlaping)?

Hi Ben :-)

Rather than switching from one SNRI to another, perhaps it would be better to try a completely different type of antidepressant. What do you think?

Kind regards,
Ed.

Hi Ben :-)

I haven't (yet!) come across anyone who's combined clomipramine (Anafranil) with Effexor. Perhaps you could start tapering the Effexor and replace it with clomipramine.

Kind regards,
Ed.

Hi Ben :-)

>why not combining these two?

I think it might be useful to add a small dose of clomipramine to your venlafaxine and to gradually increase the clomipramine dose as you decrease the venlafaxine dose. In the long term, you probably wouldn't need venlafaxine anymore if you were on clomipramine.

>But how could I switch to Cymbalta?

Perhaps you could add a small dose of duloxetine to your venlafaxine and then start reducing the venlafaxine. What does your doctor suggest??

Kind regards,
Ed.

Hi Ben,

I was on Effexor for years before it pooped out. I responded well to it at first. I switched from Effexor to Cymbalta by decreasing Effexor gradually while starting Cymbalta at 30mg/day. For me personally, Cymbalta didn't do it. It was similar to Effexor but didn't help with anxiety at all like the Effexor did. One thing great about it for me, though, was that it completely took away my long term insomnia.

Marsha
