What Happened To The Lunesta Thread?

Posted by Phillipa on May 7, 2005, at 19:13:35

I just read a Thread on ambien and lunesta came up. I know a lot people have been on it and were giving updates on their like or dislike of it. There must be a lot more people taking it now , so how is it working. Good or bad? I still have a voucher for 2 free 3mg tabs but haven't used it yet as I was waiting for more reports. Fondly, Phillipa

Lunesta users may be trying to get that bad taste out of their mouth.

Phillipa,
I have to go offline now but I will post my experiences with Lunesta last week tomorrow...
I may have to post on substance use because some people here find my behavior offensive.

I get no bad taste whatsover from Lunesta

none at all. Even if I take it on an empty stomach, even if I split the pills and the inside of my mouth touches the uncoated Lunesta.

No bad taste. No taste at all.

For me the bad taste lasted for two days, particularly when I ate or drank something sweet.
I have to tell you I did abuse the drug by taking quite a bit... it just tickled that spot that benzos do for me. I tend to abuse benzo without control, I can never take one. I was a complete amnesiac for that night and I think I will avoid this drug. Ambien does not have me react this way and I get no tolerance or addiction problems. I thought to put the lunesta pill into a gel cap might stop the taste from getting on my tounge but that didn't work. I equate 3-4mg. to about 10mg. Diazepam, just my estimate.

Well it just goes to show everyone reacts differently to these meds...my reaction was the opposite of yours in that Ambien created a problem for me. I could barely remember what I had done under the influence of the drug...I do recall that if I stayed up, I would start to hallucinate. In my case it had a much higher potential for abuse than Lunesta...guess that's why you're supposed to take it AS PRESCRIBED. As for the bad taste, the only thing I can remember taking that left a bad taste in my mouth was Xanax...come to think of it I haven't noticed it as much since I started taking the extended-release formulation.

I have been taking Lunesta 3 mg for about 2 weeks and the bad taste is gone!!!!!!!! Works good for me and I sleep for about 6 hours straight. Ambien was only 3 hours for me.

So, are you all telling me that I should try the 3mg tabs with my current l0mg of valium at bedtime? When I tried ambien it didn't do anything for me. I am very sleep resistant. I don't know why. I'd just like to feel like the lady feels on TV after taking Lunesta and the butterfly in her room. She looks as if lunesta cured her of all her problems. Fantasy? I guess so and good advertising. I found that the mix of lunesta and benzo was quite strong. but that might be good for you and perhaps you mihgt not get the same reaction. in my past experience I crossed different benzos together and I found that some mixes were much stronger than the original drug by it self. for instance, klonopin and zanax once surprised the hell out of me and I ended up with stitches in my head from a fall. but I react to benzos in an unusual way, they activate me. I'm not telling you what you should do but I would try my sample and see what happens, ecspecially since your doc gave you the sample to use. the drug is relatively benign in low doses so I wouln't worry to much.

I just convinced my psych to let me try it. I had a severe addiction to ambien and increased the dose more and more. She wants me to take Lunesta no more than every other day and prescribed 2 mg. I did have a bit of a bad taste, but just brushing teeth and mouthwash helped. I found the first night I was up every hour, so I took it again the next night and slept 7 hours straight(most I have done in years). So I don't know yet if I will need to take everynight or if psych will approve this. She said that just because it is approved for long term use does not mean it could not wind up being harmful. I do know that it just put me to sleep--did not give me the amnesia or "wanting to get away from the world" feeling that ambien did. I wish I knew if it really has been proven safe for everyday use so I could discuss this with my doc.

I've been taking 3mg Lunesta for about a week. Along with it, to help with sleep, I'm taking .5 to 1 mg klonipin, and 25 mg Elavil. I seem to sleep solid for 5 to 6 hours, then wake, but am able to go back into a light, in and out kind of sleep for a couple more hours. I get the bad taste, that doesn't bother me- but it may bother a bedmate..(yet to be determined). Right now I prefer it over Ambien.
