This blows.

Posted by BIGDaddyachmed69 on April 30, 2005, at 1:42:12

Tomorrow's my last dose of Paxil...then I gotta wait something like two weeks before I can be put on Nardil. In the meantime I'm stuck taking Depakote, Lunesta, and lorazepam as needed. I keep upping the dose of Lunesta and lorazepam without my pdoc's knowledge. Tonight I took 6 mg of both the Lunesta and the lorazepam, just to calm my nerves before I turn in. That barely cut it...my expectations are just too high I guess. It's like alright, tomorrow I'll take more Provigil than I need to combat the drug-induced fatigue I'm experiencing. Then on Sunday, I'll take another 6 mg of lorazepam and Lunesta to calm my nerves (the Provigil makes me a bit jittery). I'm up, and then I'm down, up, then down...never truly experiencing happiness. I just want to feel normal again...I'm hopeful the Nardil will do this. I'm thinking about asking my pdoc for Xanax but that's probably asking for trouble...I'd only take the Xanax until I felt that the Nardil was kicking in. Man...this does blow.

HELP!!

Posted by BIGDaddyachmed69 on April 30, 2005, at 12:22:49

I know I have a similar message typed up from last night, but I don't think anyone bothered to read it. I took my last Paxil this morning...it's going to be a grueling two and a half weeks until I start Nardil. And even then, I have to wait what...six to eight weeks to get the full benefit. And that's if it decides to work...people are all like, "yeh the new formulation sucks man". I just hope it works out, that's all. In the meantime I got Depakote...woah...and lunesta at bedtime. Oh yeah, and lorazepam as needed. That ain't cuttin' it...last night I took 6mg of both the lorazepam and the Lunesta. And the reaction I had to that was strange...I felt tired, and slightly depressed. Not what I was looking for. Maybe I can get my doctor to prescribe me Xanax. Oh, and I was up all night so to keep myself awake during the day today I took 3 Provigils. I keep clenching my jaw, it's really pissin me off...thank you for allowing me to waste your time.

I don't think the new formulation sucks more than it is simply different.

You get used to the way that a drug works in your system, and if it is changed then it can take time to adjust. Plus, people just want somthing to blame their problems on.

Take heart dude, you're going on perhaps the most effective antidepressant known to man. I am jealous.

Plus, paxil has a very short half life, If you're gutsy you could probably perform a logarithmic taper over the two weeks.

Do other crap to sustain your mood. Exercise like hell, drink coffee, do a couple nights of sleep deprivation, see if you can get an AP.

You've got to be creative. When I came off celexa to go on parnate, I managed, and you will too.

Thanks for your input, bro...I appreciate it. I know I'll manage...in the meantime it just sucks, though. I don't want to do anything anymore.

Why don't you try some non-prescription supplements that will directly target activation/anxiety?

Taurine, available where body builders get there stuff, and good nutrition stores. 1-2 grams, and you should feel real relief.

The B3 family vitamin called niacinamide is calming. Some report efficacy at 100 mg, but you can take up to 500 mg per dose, four times a day.

This will probably go to the alternative board....don't worry, it's just a click away.

Problems, questions, etc....let me know.

Please tell me that you have been doing a slow taper w/ paxil? If not, you may need to taper off it more slowly. I tried to go off of it too quickly and I became suicidally depressed and really out of it. If you still feel bad in spite of taking the lorezapam etc, then call your doc. You might need to take a tiny bit of paxil and ween yourself off more slowly.

You mentioned that you took your last "pill" of paxil. How much was that dose? Just for reference, I needed to cut a 10mg pill in half and then in half again to get off of it. And I should add that I am usually very tolerant to side effects.

Good luck and keep us posted on your switch.

BTW, you might want to re-post something like this on the withdrawal board. You might get more responses there.

Good idea EE. I also had to reduce paxil very slowly. Brain zaps. And I was only on l0mg. I hope you feel better. Fondly, Phillipa

Thanks everyone for your suggestions...I probably am coming off the Paxil a bit too quickly.

When you're on the edit page, right below your password block, is a tick-box. If you check that, you will be notified by email of all replies to your post.

Some people find that Benadryl (diphenhydramine, available dirt-cheap as a generic at Walmart) helps with some withdrawal symptoms.

There is also a whole withdrawal board.
