Anyone Know If Myland Valium Is Good?

Posted by Phillipa on February 19, 2005, at 18:06:37

Since I'm not experiencing any of the relaxing effects that I used to on the real Valium, I wondered if anyone had ever used Myland Diazepam. My insurance won't allow anything other than generic. I wondered, in your experience, if this was a good drug company. Thanks, Fondly, Phillipa

I know nothing about Myland, but I'd be very suprised if there was a significant difference between generic and brand name. That stuff has been around for a long time. I'd think that any potential manufacturing problems would have been worked out long ago.

If you want to test this, your doctor can specifically request on the Rx that only brand name Valium is provided. With my insurance, generic diazepam is a $5 co-pay. Brand name Valium is $25. I'd never pay extra for brand name.

Unfortunately; my insurance co. does not allow for Brand name even if the pdoc specifies. I've tried it before when I was on Xanax. I found out that Greenstone was the best as it was manufactured by the company that manufactures the Brand name Xanax. This was told to me by a pharmacist who told me I was "stupid" to pay for the Brand. He claimed there was no difference. I took his advice, and found it to be true. Other generic labels did not work for me. Unfortunately now all xanax does is make me tired. Fondly, Phillipa

Just a note if its not working for you.. Valium is the weakest benzo out of all of them basically. Many people think its rather strong, but it isnt, it just has a long half life. Xanax, Klonopin are the strongest that are available typically (there are stronger ones, but they arent prescribed any much, especially in the US)

So if your going from Xanax to Valium, you are significally downgrading the benzo power. Xanax .5 is probably equivalent to like 20-30mg Valium, and even then, Xanax is a trialobenzodizepine(SP) which only few benzos have this property, none of which are prescribed very much except Xanax.

And if Xanax stopped working for you - you were probably becomign tolerant to its effects. This will happen with all benzos over time usually.

I have to take 10mg of klonopin to even feel the least bit of anxiety relief, for example. That is a major dose usually for seizures.. so i stopped taking benzos altogether.. That is equivalent to 100's of MGs of Valium for example..

I found that Mylan's lorazepam, the generic for Wyeth's Ativan, was so inferior that it didn't even seem to be the same drug. (It acted like a sleeping pill.)

I gladly pay the 6x higher copay to get the name brand. (Which acts like an anxiolytic.)

If your insurance company has "tiers" you may have the option to simply ask for name brand, and pay a higher copay.

what about klonopin??

A placebo is a pill that does nothing, used in tests against the actual drug.

The generic vs. brand name issue has been hashed out here many times. People have ranked the various generics for Klonopin. (Also see http://www.crazymeds.org/BvsG.html.)

In my case, it was a qualitative issue, not quantitative, in that no amount of the generic Ativan would behave as the real thing.

In one detailed analysis of Klonopin (if I remember correctly) the poster stated how much more of the generic he needed to equal the brand name (or maybe a better quality generic.)

So, according to the crazymeds link you Posted, benzos are the same as far as generic vs brand name. So why would you pay more for the brand name ativan? I want to know how mylan compares to the name brand of valium if they're all the same. Fondly, Phillipa

That site did say: "The one exception to this is Klonopin" which is what what being asked here.

I pay more for name brand Ativan because it actually works, while the generic doesn't.

While there has been a lot of discussion here comparing the generic Klonopins and Xanaxes, I don't recall any about Valium, so myabe people can rport their experiences.

Fred23, That was very interesting. As a matter of fact, I have Purpac klonopin. Maybe that is why it didn't work for me! I can't remember if I said it on this Thread or not but Greenstone was the generic that I was told was the closest to the real xanax. I am REALLY curious to know about the valium now. As my insurance is about to expire [significant has maxed out Cobra], I may have to cough up the money to pay for the "real" valium. Any info I would really appreciate. Thanks, Phillipa

Here is another case of low quality from Purepac, but their generic Ativan:

So, it's possible that is why this valium is not affecting me in the same positive way the brand name did years ago. I wonder if brand name is expensive since it is an old drug? Do you know who the manufacturer is currently? I know this sounds lazy of me, but these drug companies sell each other every other day it seems. Fondly Phillipa

Did you notice that a few topics "above" this one is a parallel discussion about generic Remeron?

Hi P!

I don't think they'd ever sell it, it's one of the most successful products of all time!

I'm afraid not, we have different generics in the UK. We don't have Myland.

Hi Ed! I forgot to tell you in my E=mail that I have not had any amnesia again. I did up my bedtime valium to l0mg, as I had an old rx. I guess I will have to tell the pdoc when I see her. I stopped the xanax when I did this. I will also ask her about the Brand name vs generic, and will probably get the Brand name next time to see if there is a difference. I certainly know there will be in price! Fondly Phillipa O

I found that it took about 7.5mg. of Mylan diazepam to equal 5mg. of Roche Valium (diazepam is drug name, Valium is brand name).

Thank you, Thank you. As I expected. I added another generic 5mg valium I had from an old script. Since it was old it's potency is probably lower. That with the Myland 5mg and I'm sleeping better and longer. I guess I'll pay the extra and get the real thing and test the theory. Fondly, Phillipa
