TIRED!

Posted by AMD on January 17, 2005, at 13:44:52

Folks,

For five days I've been wanting to sleep /constantly/. Yesterday I slept for 20+ hours. The day before the same. Today I've awakened from over 12 hours of rest and I am /still/ tired!

Could this be depression? I don't particularly feel depressed, but I can't think of any other reason why I'd be so exhausted yet not feeling sick or otherwise having a reason to be sleeping so many hours per day.

I haven't changed medications recently, so I can't point to that.

Any ideas?

Hi:
The 'excessive or hypo sleep' pattern is one of 'depressive' symptoms. In my case, before dxed with Bp II, I was 'unable' to sleep enough, due to 'depression.' However, after the med., Depakote I slept 'too' much. Only later on I found I needed a proper anti-depressant after my own reseach along with 'support' groups over the Internet.

For me, Bupropion SR(the generic form of Wellbutrin SR) giving me 'tremendous' help in regard to 'unlimited' sleep along with 'attention/focus' problem.

Through my own/personal experience in conjuction with other posters, I highly recommend this med., 'Bupropion SR.' I've been on the WB sr, 300 mg., ... both brand and generic form for the past three to four years and there are NO any prominent side-effects to concern. Just in the beginning of WB sr. regimen along with other med., I had some 'minor' S.E.s.

It could be the depression. I sleep for 12 hours a day and never feel rested. Depression can really mess with sleep.

Is it possible for tiredness to be the *only* symptom of depression?

I am on one med, celexa, 20mg daily for the past two years.

I am tired all the time.

me too. I'm on Celexa 40mg and Lithium. I also have tickling in my joints so I feel very restless. Tired and restless - bad feeling. Is it the drugs or the illness?

Hi:
In my guess through the experience, .... 'tired and restless' is also depressive symptoms. In depression, ... besides, 'tiredness,' and 'restlessness,' there are some more conspicuous symptoms, such as 'irritability,' 'sadness,' 'worthless,' 'hopeless in life,' 'no energy/motivation,' and few more 'self-image related/lack of confidence' depressive feelings. However, it could be also due to 'anxiety' brought by depressive episodes. It's VERY hard to say which symptom causing which episode, ... particularly two meds. you've been on. One thing you could analyze/pin-point is whether the problem started AFTER you got on the med. If you didn't have the problem BEFORE the meds., then you could blame on the meds. Otherwise, you may have 'anxiety' problem along with depressive episode.

I've been on the Lithium 900 mg. along with three more meds., for the past five and a half years. I have NO joint related problem, however due to 'salt' components in the Lithium, some of folks might have similar problem like yours. But, as far as I know, I NEVER heard/read about it.

First off, talk to your psychiatrist ASAP. In my opinion, you shouldn't ignore the problems, particularly 'restless' on the joint.

Many thanks for your help H.G. I think you're right. It's depression causing the symptoms. Mercifully it causes oversleeping rather than the opposite. And of course anxiety comes with it. I find them impossible to disentangle Fred
