I am looking for a non-addicting med since i have had bad incidence...
I heard Buspar is apportved for generalized anxiety, and im not sure but for also panic.
That may be effective. I panic alot.
Can you tell me anything?

From what I have heard, if you have taken benzos it will not work for anxiety. This may or may not be true. Phillipa

It doesn't take effect immediately. It builds up over time in your system. Like sometimes months.

I've never taken it myself, but my therapist and two pdocs have told me that they don't know anyone who has found it effective.
On the other hand, I found desipramine (a tricyclic antidepressant) to help with my anxiety.

Buspar was the first med I tried to specifically target my anxiety symptoms - as in: after failed AD trials, but had yet to be placed on any benzo. My anxiety symptoms run in a wide range of GAD, panic attacks, agoraphobia, ruminations... pretty much you name it. I found Buspar **extremely** ineffective. I have since known folks in the "real world" who found it did nothing for them. I can only recall a few here who have posted any good results on it and I don't recall if that was it's use in montherapy or combo.
I often wonder who is getting relief from this med - I assume there must be some as it's still heavy in the psych market.

I have taken Buspar on and off for the last seven years and I always find it effective for my anxiety. I have GAD and my symptoms are mostly hyperattentiveness, rapid heart rate, diarreah, feeling as if I am going to cry when speaking in social situations ie. to college profs., social workers, kid's school officials ect., I also experience trouble concentrating, irritability, nervousness, severe teeth grinding at night causing terrible face, neck and shoulder pain. For me Buspar has relieved all of those symptoms but it only lasts as long as I take it and maybe for about a month afterward. Then it takes about a month to reach effectivness again. Right now I am in the waiting period having started 30mg at night. It makes me very tired like taking benedryl but after a few weeks I should be able to take it half at night and half in morning like I'm supposed to. I stop taking it because my prescription runs out and I can't afford to go to the doctor. It is very inexpensive...at the state hospital's pharmacy it is only 11bucks, but that is here in Oklahoma. Sometimes I stop taking it because I feel so great I forget what it feels like to be anxious and worried all of the time and I think maybe I don't need it anymore, maybe I can control it on my own. Not!

I have major depression and generalized/social anxiety. What kind of anxiety did you have, how bad, how much did the desipramine help? At what dose?
Sorry for all the questions, there are not many here who have taken desipramine, and I am in a tough spot with anxiety currently, don't know what to do.

I'm more than happy to help out a fellow anxious babbler. :) I'm being treated for both general anxiety and major depression. I actually started taking desipramine to help with the depression, but it really helped w/ the anxiety. This was a pleasant surprise b/c I haven't found other meds to help all that much w/ my anxiety
I take 190 now, but I think that the anxiety started to lessen around 100. It should be said that I usually need more of a med than most people, so it might help you sooner. Another nice thing about desipramine is that you can have a blood level drawn, so that your doc can get a sense of if you have enough in your system to be effective.
Side effect-wise I think that the most bothersome is the dry mouth. But, I just keep gum and water nearby and that helps. I also have had some probs w/ getting dizzy when I stand up too fast, but it hasn't been bad enough that I would consider stopping it. The side effects seem to lessen over time.

It helped my anxiety enough that people mentioned to me (out of the blue) that I seemed calmer. A pretty good endorsement of the med!

Hmmm...a little hard to say. b/c i am on a combo of meds we were going up very slowly. i started at 20 and went up by 10 every 3-5 days. So w/ that method, it probably took about 3 weeks. Maybe it would be different if you went up faster?
