If you were to have ECT where would you go?

Posted by denise1904 on November 28, 2004, at 16:34:20

Hi,

I'm just wondering where the best place to go for ECT is and are there any recommended treatment regimens, such as what type of anaesthetic to have etc.

I doubt for one minute my doctor or psychiatrist would ever let me have it but if it ever came to it, where is the best place to go, in the UK and outside of the UK?

Denise

Where are you guys from that your doctors are flat out stating, "no" to ECT? I'm in the US, and most docs here don't seem to be anti-ECT. I am, in fact, very close to getting it and my doctor is completely supportive. He has recommended multiple doctors that administer it as well. Medecines have been a severely troubling path for me, although I'm almost 100 percent sure I'll be on them again.

My recomendation is go to any automotive repair shop that has a 12 volt battery charger.

They can rig up some wires to your head and shock some sense into you.

Please don't suggest that others harm themselves.

If you or others have questions about this or about posting policies in general, or are interested in alternative ways of expressing yourself, please see the FAQ:

http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/faq.html#civil

Follow-ups regarding these issues should be redirected to Psycho-Babble Administration. They, as well as replies to the above posts, should of course themselves be civil.

Thanks,

Bob

At some hospitals in the UK they don't even monitor the EEG during ECT, is it the same in Canada?

As far as I know, the only monitoring is cardiac/sats.

I think a better way to put it is where I wouldnt go. Or who I wouldnt use for ECT. I would NOT use a foreign trained, English as a second language psychiatrist for an ECT doctor. I would only use an American trained, English as a first language psychiatrist.

I would also try to get it done at a University teaching hospital, rather than some rinky dink local general hospital. And Id try to have it done outpatient rather than inpatient, cause inpatient sucks.

You seem enthactuated with masterbation. Does it help some way? I'll agree that sexual gratification is a very good anti-depressant.

Do you take any meds?
