I've seen this term used before - "tardive dementia". My guess is it's related to D2 receptor upregulation, and/or supersensitivity cause by neuroleptics. When the drug is taken away, less dopamine is available for other receptors like the D1 receptor involved in working memory. I'm having trouble with my working memory now, along with my feelings, after discontinuing my antipsychotic.
Anybody got a better explanation?

What is it that you are feeling like right now? Also, what neuroleptic(s) did you use? I know tardive stands for 'caused subsequent to the instatement of a drug'. I suppose what you are saying is possible, and your explanation makes sense. I have definitely heard of stuff like cognitive impairment after treatment with neuroleptics. I believe the older ones like compazine and haldol have been shown to cause shrinking of brain tissue as evidenced by an increase in brain ventricle size.

Very very apathetic and feelingless. Sometimes I even going into a total haze and my long term memory sucks.

2mg for 2, and 1mg for 1, and 3mg for 3 weeks of Risperidal in the morning and Nozinan 10mg for sleep.I know tardive stands for 'caused subsequent to the instatement of a drug'.
