tardive dementia

Posted by lostforwards on October 20, 2004, at 20:59:34

I've seen this term used before - "tardive dementia". My guess is it's related to D2 receptor upregulation, and/or supersensitivity cause by neuroleptics. When the drug is taken away, less dopamine is available for other receptors like the D1 receptor involved in working memory. I'm having trouble with my working memory now, along with my feelings, after discontinuing my antipsychotic.

Anybody got a better explanation?
