All neg issues with meds. Are there any positive?

Posted by Shyla on September 13, 2004, at 13:51:56

All I read here are negative issues with medications. Does anyone have positive results that might help others? Thanks!!

I tend to keep quiet since I'm doing fairly well on my regime, but I can see that what's on the board are people's problems and questions.

I am on Effexor XR 150mg
Wellbutrin XL 300mg
Ambien 5mg
Xanax .5 mg

after trying many other combinations and dosages. The side effects are all gone. I have depressive periods but not as debilitating as before. The anxiety and panic are much improved both from the medication and from therapy.

My dx is bipolar2 (mild), GAD, and panic attacks.
What meds are you on and for what dx?
best fishes, pc.

You bring up a very good point. I really don't want to see another board added, but med successes would be a good one. There are successes. The view here can appear slanted as it does focus more on the negative aspects of meds just, I guess, because..... I'm rather unsure, really. Some would argue because successes are rare. In my experience outside of forums for this type of discussions, that is untrue - many are doing well. I was warned long ago that the internet was no place to look for "happy" stories. I've found that true.

I also tend to think success story folks stop posting.

I do great on my med. I came back to support and tell of my success. I feel there are times my "story" isn't that well received or possibly believed.... oh, well.

I am on 75 mg of Effexor XR
bumping up to 300 mg of Wellbutrin to try to address non-existent libido
5 mg of Ambien
The Effexor has been working for me with the exception of the libido issue. However, I am very honest and open with my doc and we are working together to try to find a solution.
I'm so glad that you have found the combo that works for you. Congratulations!

Thank you and congratulations! Would you mind sharing with us what type of meds you are taking and the doses?

Actually, I've shared it many times and try to respond with my experiences when folks post about benzo's and Klonopin, specifically, in discussion of their use in Anxiety Disorders.

I'm a garden variety anxiety disorder sufferer. I have been on Klonopin, monotherapy, for the better part of 3 years. Currently I'm on .25mgs twice a day. I do vary within a range for dosing, but that's current. Doing well after nasty times of extreme anxiety symptoms, panic, and agoraphobia.

Good for you. I'm happy to hear that there is hope if you keep on trying and searching. Thanks for sharing. The best of luck to you.

I've been sick with mild undiagnosed schizophrenia for all of my twenties. I've cleared up most all of my symptoms with the unbelievable low dose of 20mg Geodon. I am now tapering down my Neurontin to nothing. I have tried many different medicines, but I was targeting the wrong thing. The right medicine is out there, but the search sucks. A good doctor makes all the difference too.

Wow, we're almost on the same dosage. The Wellbutrin should help with the libido problem.

Yes, now that I feel like my medications are at the right place, I can focus on therapy and try to learn better techniques for living day to day.

Hi Shyla:
As a matter of fact, there are lots of times on this board that people share their successes.
They may not do it in a direct manner Like "Hey everyone, I'm doing great now and this is how I did it!". It's more in the form of answering someone else' query on meds or situation, a kinda "Well this worked for me" advice thing. Which is a success. I guess the board is more of a sharing experiences and support/advice kinda place.
I have noticed though, that just lately, a lot of unhappy/negative things are happening to posters, all at once. Or med troubles are dominating. Your timing may have given you your impression!
It might help people in general, if success stories are posted as such...to give hope/ideas to others.
Please delve into all the threads though, because a thread that sounds negative, can reveal some great success stories in respondents.
As for me, I have severe GAD, that sometimes has depressive spells, depending upon how much stress I'm under. I often stay away from here if I'm very stressed! I don't like to dwell on it.
However, right now I'm doing well on a combo of 10mg Celexa, .5mg Klonopin (more Klon, as needed due to circumstances, if nec.). I've tried 8 different meds over 3-4 years. This combo is the best so far. I've been on Celexa in the past with sexual S.E's which are beginning to return, but my pdoc plans on adding Wellbutrin. So that's my success story!!! And I'm hoping it will get even better!
Regards,
Jas

I think lots of people get stabilized on their meds and don't feel the need to hang around here when things are going well. Maybe the positive sign is that posters come and go.

Jas, you have a very good point. Thanks. Sometimes those messages are hard to detect because they are imbedded in a subject title that may be misleading. Keep up the good work.

After failed trials with Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, and Lexapro, mostly due to side effects, I have found pretty good luck with Prozac (generic) and Xanax XR. Basically the Prozac is very stimulating for me which overcomes depression and the Xanax XR for sleep and tempering the edge from the Proz.
I am pretty med sensitive.
Taking 20 mg Proz every other day early am.
.5 mg Xanax XR daily bedtime and early am.
Also I have lost 10 pounds, which I attribute partly to the Proz because my activity level is higher.
GOOD LUCK!

I have had great luck with Zonegran and Effexor Xr, and have been stable since March for the first time in 15 years...hey, for me, 7 months is a loooong time to go without any episodes!! I check in with Babble frequently to see if I can help anyone, or to check out the latest news about meds.
