Withdrawl causing worse-than-normal effects??

Posted by becksA on September 5, 2004, at 11:01:17

I've been on Neurontin now for a few weeks, and it had been working great, while weaning off Xanax XR. For Xanax, I was down to 2mg 2x daily, and about to go to 1mg 2x daily as my 2mg's just ran out, but can't get to the pharmacy until tuesday, and I've been without Xanax since friday. My anxiety seems to have gone up (obviuosly). But my question is is this what it would be like after having fully and slowly weaned off the Xanax, or is it just especially bad because I cut it off cold turkey? Thanks

I also have been noticing muscle twitches? just been noticing since i haven't taken any xanax, besides the increased anxiety, randomly certain muscles will "twitch" in my shoulder, thigh, etc...could this be because of the xanax withdrawl as well?

Rebound anxiety for sure. For your comfort you might raise your Neurontin or simply add some Taurine (a calming amino acid which raises GABA in your brain).

thanks. btw i will be adding more Neurontin and going back to 1mg xanax xr to continue the wean once the pharmacy opens on tuesday. Also that Taurine spiked my interest. How successful is that? Is that something you get from GNC? I've always been pretty skepitcal about those natural/herbal types of things

You could ask this one to Larry Hoover, our home *specialist* in alternative treatments.

By the way, i'm big skeptical myself. But Taurine works very well. You may find some in pharmacy or via the net.

For me taurine works better reducing anxiety than GABA, melatonin, and most other supplements. As far as supplements go - and I have a cupboard full - it's high on my list.

Sometimes heavy herbs like valerian, kavakava, skullcap, and the like cause a paradoxical reaction leaving me more agitated than before. It's like a crapshoot when I raid the herb closet.
