> Hi,
>
> I've been suffering from panic attacks for about 3 or 4 months. My ears block up, my arms down to my fingers tingle, my head is blocked, I feel nauseated, my chest has pain, my blood preassure spikes...hard, my heart doesn't go really fast but will give off beats or beat really hard. I've had a tough year finding my husband of 20 years in bed with one of his clients, my son-in-law dying in my home while my daughter was/is in treatment for alcoholism (the baby is living with his other grandmother). I was homeless for 4 months. I went from a wealthy woman to a poor one, and my ex won't speak to me or the kids or grandkids since this happened on May 7, 2004...PTSS perhaps? Xanax helps, but I am such a no drug type...any thoughts? Anyone else have the ringing int he ears, the blocked ears, the head feeling blocked? Thanks for any insight! Paris

Thank you for your kind words (please be patient with me as far as "names" go, I"ll get it down). I have had therapy, they have all told me that I am very strong and don't need the weekly therapy sessions. I, too, don't like taking any meds, but sometimes it is so bad that I must. Like yesterday and Sunday. So much is going on, back to court in August even though our final divorce decree was given in February and our divorce was final on May 1, 2004...he just never did what he was ordered. So sad. And I was raped 1 year ago today...perhaps that has something to do with it. Take care and thanks again. Perras

Sorry for your difficulties. You've certainly had alot of stressors that may have exhausted your ablity to to cope. I have suffered from panic attacks and experienced those weird symptoms you describe. I fought taking meds for a long time. Eventually, I seem to have no choice if I wanted a life. The drug I used worked and I now no longer take it - so, it doesn't have to be a lifetime committment. For me, nothing really worked but a med taking care of the misfiring of my brain.
Good luck and I hope you can get your panic attacks under control.

Thank you. I hope so too, it truly affects every aspect of life. I'd panic if I forgot to bring the meds with me somewhere just by virtue of the fact that I didn't have them with me!!

I have been there!! Talk with your doc. Hopefully, you can come up with a plan that is workable. Anxiety and Panic are sometimes under-rated for their life impact. They can both drop you in your tracks and all of life and functioning suffers. It doesn't have to be that way, I can attest to that.

I feel so for you, I really do.

Dear Perres,
I too am sorry to hear about the very TOUGH time you have been having. Your description of panicc attacks is VERY familiar to those of us who have had struggled with them.( as you can tell by the other posts)

Xanax has been my Med for dealing with them for several years now...I am told I am one of the few who has not developed tolerance for alprozolem
so my long-term usuage has worked for me.

I have been on 2 other Anti-Deppresants...and they also got rid of the panic attacks...so it would seem BOTH Meds have enough anti-anxiety properties to handle panic.

My advice would be to stick with the fewest, and lowest dose Med's you can.
If Xanax works at a lose dose on an "as needed"
basis..stick with it! I wish I wouldnt havent allowed myself to be talked into an AD, by my MD.
Anxiety was and is my MAIN struggle...the AD's just addded side-effects that have affected the last few years of my life, negatively.
But that is just my experience...others have found the AD's to be a life-saver and are doing great on them.
I am just giving you my opinion as a fellow-"panic attack" sufferer.

Debilitating Clinical Depression is another ball game. If you are NOT troubled by this...I would advise steering clear of AD's...no matter what an MD might suggest.

I want to thank everyone, from the bottom of my heart, for your kindness and advice. The Xanax does work when I feel an attack coming on. And I only take a small dose. One month's prescription lasted me over 2 months. BUt I don't like being on meds. I'm trying to do this through yoga, breathing exercises, etc. but that, sometimes, only is mildly successful. Maybe if I start working out again I'll feel better. I didn't have these attacks when I was at the gym 3xs a week up until 4 months ago (I LOVE to lift...I'm a massage therapist on the side and need to be strong as I'm little, but I totally wrecked my elbow in a snowmobiling accident this winter and need to have surgery to remove the pieces of bone...yuck...and it was my 1st time on a snowmobile). Thank you all again, this has truly been a blessing for me!!!

Crazychick,

Why do you not just take valium when you need it? I assume from the way you talk that you have tried this before.
