bought the bottle and now that I see it's a high starting dose I'm afraid to take it.. seems no one started this high.. and I can't afford another bottle of a lower dose. I have no idea what to do.

I have a suggestion but I don't know if it will work. You should talk to your doctor and tell him that you feel you should build up to 150 mg over a period of time starting at 37.5 mg the first week and 75 mg the second week. Tell him this is based on credible research you have seen on the Internet. If he agrees ask him if he can give you a free sample starter kit. The drug companies usually give the doctors free samples to give to the patients. My doctor gave me a starter kit and several more free sample packets of 75 mg which lasted for a few weeks. Until the doctor knows how you are reacting to the medication he shouldn't be giving you such a high dose. High blood pressure is just one of the serious side effects. Good luck! I feel for you. This stuff isn't cheap especially if you don't have insurance.

Just wanted to mention that not everyone experiences high blood pressure taking Effexor. I am currently taking 150 mg and my blood pressure has not changed at all. But my doctor insists on seeing me every two months to monitors my vitals.

Its pretty easy to split your doses ... and in fact its less expensive because a pill of 150 is the same price as a pill of 75.
Basically, what you do is open the capsule and pour out the little white beads on a sheet of paper ... use a knife of piece of plastic or whatever and measure about half of the little granules ... take those ... in yoghurt or whatever ... and pour the rest back into the capsule, close it and save it for the next day.
I did that for a while when I was upped to 225 but had a bunch of 150 left and didn't want to buy more pills just yet.
