REMERON

Apart from the Amisulpride my doctor is thinking of trying me on Remeron/Zispin (mirtazapine).

How does this compare with other SNRIs and SSRIs? Is it's effects similar to Effexor? Effexor, for some reason, made me quite apathetic?

Is Remeron more stimulating or more sedating? Whats the most common side effects and does it make you drowsy?

at lower doses it has a very sedating effect, some use it for sleep. actually. at higher doses it is more stimulating. it didn't do that much for me for depression (i took it for sleep), but you never know, it could be really good for you.

I haven't used it, but it is notorious for weight gain and sedation; although, at higher dosages, it can become more activating. It generally lacks the sexual side effects and nausea that Effexor and the SSRIs can cause. Effexor also made me apathetic, this at dosages of 75-150 mg/day. I've had relatively poor luck with sedating antidepressants myself, but everyone is different.

I take it for sleep + it also relieves SSRI type side effects caused by Effexor. As an AD, I'd say it is very weak & best left as a last choice for most people, it's best use is to augment another AD that is working.

HI, i take this drug alone 30mg doesnt do nothing for depression but it somewhat has helped me with my anxiety... if you want it for depression then my advice would be to try something else along with it that may be the perfect combo..

Good luck let us know.

........ side a ffects are very minimal.... just sedating at lower doses, will help u sleep very well, there is a risk of weight gain which can be controled if you follow a simple low fat diet.. at higher does its activating somewhat, if you get any sign of infection ring doc right away apart from that all is ok... for my anxiety anyways ..

Hi,

I'm in my third week of remeron at only 15mg. I was very sedated for the first two days and then my daytime energy was fine. (But for some people it takes up to two weeks to get over the sedation and some never do).

I am doing better overall, even though it is only week three. Still having some anxiety though and an increased appetite.

Makes me sleep great and I usually do terrible with sleep.

Good Luck!

Hi Ravenstorm,

It's great that you got over the initial oversedation. Isn't in funny how a solid nights sleep can give you more energy through the day? :) Once you are 100% use to 15mg it is worth trying more for an increase in anxiolytic effect. Cutting the tablet up so you can take a 22.5mg dose would be good as Remeron's effect is variable, else try 30mg. Remeron isn't going to be as good as a Benzo for anxiety, but then it isn't as addictive either. Remeron has three distinct modes of effect & there is a noticable difference at different dosages. The increase in appetite is a bummer, all you can do is resist, or steer yourself towards some fruit. I can't tell you if this effect subsides as I didn't get it, I would guess it does subside because there are plenty of useage studies showing early weight increases that level off with time.

Cheers,
Panda.
