1)Why ??? would you REALLY want to stay up that long?

2)What ??? kind of pegs are you talking about "putting" in your face?

3)Have you ??? been checked out for possible problems by a doc?

You may hurt yourself if you try to force it that long. People have been known to go into psychosis and delirium by doing such. Please talk to your doctor before you do such.

Best,
Jay

Ive never been able to stay awake even 24 hrs, but my hubby did (just couldn't sleep due to anxiety), and he got extremely paranoid, and had to be hospitalized for sleep deprivation. He was getting maybe 2-3 hrs of sleep over an extended period of several months.

Sleep deprivation really took its toll on our family. I would never do it willingly, even if I could.

Good Luck

Staying up for three days or more in a sensory deprivation chamber produces all of the hallucinations and altered consciousness that LSD does--with none of the euphoria.

A word to the wise: if you do attempt this, have someone around you to make sure you don't lose it at the 72-hour mark and beyond. You _will_ start to hallucinate at some point; if you are not comfortable "tripping" this will be disconcerting, to say the least.

As an aside, people think chronic amphetamine use drives you crazy. I'm confident, however, that most cases of that are actually the result of sleep deprivation beyond 24 hours coupled with poor nutrition and dehydration.

What benefit are you looking for by staying up for so many days? It sounds like a form of abuse to yourself.

Personally, I stayed up for 4 days due to Major Depression. It was no laugh or form of enjoyment. It was Hell. I couldn't sleep. I took sleeping meds and NOTHING was working. I became very suicidal. I couldn't trust my own judgement. I was hallucinating. Hallucination is not funny. You can't tell what is real and not real. Is that what you want? It's a state of psychosis. What is funny about that?

Try starting lexapro or another SSRI and you may be able to accomplish your goal like it or not...i am of course just kidding..i think my 2nd week on lex i got about 3 or 4 hours in a 3 day span..there was nothing fun about it..just laying there terrified most of the time..

Raz, I would suggest filming it if you decide to do it. At least you would have a video diary of it and who knows someone may actually want to televise it in today's environment. A reality show of what lack of sleep will do to ya and see if you can survive. Better yet, pitch it to David Blaine, I'd like to see him pull that trick out of his hat.

Hows about staying awake for 5 days with the pegs on your face , and why April?
After 24 hours I hallucinate.

I went 10 days and almost died

I went ten days and almost committed suicide. I was coming off medications and had total insomnia coupled with severe anxiety. I ended up in the emergency ward...would not recommend sleep deprivation to anyone.

Raz, are you really serious about this? I urge you to talk to your doctor about your plans. This is NOT a good idea. In fact, it is a very bad and dangerous idea. The only way something like this could be done is under a doctor's supervision, preferably in a hospital setting. It's been done in clinical studies of sleep deprivation, but you should definitely NOT do it on your own. I'm surprised that Dr. Bob hasn't intervened on this one. I thought that this site wasn't supposed to be used to exchange information that leads to self-harm or harm to others. Although the information on this thread may not be "uncivil," it is unhealthy and dangerous. DON'T DO IT!!

Thanks,

Ok... Im doing this because i can. Because for as long as i can rememeber ive wanted to see how long i can go with no sleep. Ive done hours of research on the net. A certain psychologists view states, even with more than 4 days with no sleep there will be no permenant damage as long as good sleep is done at the end. I am strong minded about this and no-one will stop me attempting it. Yes im aware hallucinations kick can kick in from the 2/3 day point and that there are a lot of problems that can occur. Im doing it because i feel that its a challenge missing from my life and kick myself for ever if i dont do it. No i dont need a doctor but i am proud

But you don't have to, right? Change your mind.

> ... there will be no permenant damage as long as good sleep is done at the end.

Maybe no permanent damage. What about temporary damage to your health, and maybe to others close to you? If you end up in the ER, does that count as no damage, no cost?

> Im doing it because i feel that its a challenge missing from my life and kick myself for ever if i dont do it. No i dont need a doctor but i am proud

Wouldn't you be more proud of yourself for doing something productive which benefits you? Don't hurt yourself for no reason! Think of a challenge you will get something out of, other than a "record". If you have that much mental endurance, run an ultramarathon or something.

Since it doesn't have to do with medication, I'd like to redirect this thread to Psycho-Social-Babble. Here's a link:
