I need a last minute suggestion about Parnate !

Posted by francesco on January 30, 2004, at 17:57:24

... and trifluoperazine.
I'm on day 5 of Parmodalin, a stupid italin med that mixes 10mg of Parnate and 1mg of Trifluoperazine. I'm experiencing side-effects and I don't know which is the culprit. I'm considering also to quit it. The effects are somnolence, sometimes mental impairment, sometimes problem with coordination and balance ... Since in this period I'm quite hypocandriac about meds I tend to think it's the trifluoperazine but I'm open to other interpretations.

What should I have to do ? Should I have to quit ? Waiting for the Parnate to kick in ?
How much time Parnate requires to kick in ?
Does it kick in gradually or all at once ?
Any comment greatly appreciated

I'm not sure about your side effects except the coordination and balance problems. Could they be due to orthostatic hypotension? That can be a side effect of an MAOI. In me, it causes me to stagger a bit when I first get up. My walking feels like I am drunk, but I don't feel dizzy. I just stagger for no reason. This is due to the blood pooling in your body when you are lying or sitting down. When you get up, low blood pressure doesn't get the blood back up to the head fast enough.

How long have you been on this med? My orthostatic hypotension usually goes away after one or two weeks on Nardil.

I hope you find a workable solution!

With me, it usually kicks in at about the three-week mark, although once it took about 27 days to kick in and at another time, only 18 days. It's hard to say whether it was gradual or all at once--maybe a bit "in between".

Hey, I looked up Trifluoperazine and it sounds like some kind of anti-psychotic. Those things have all kinds of weird side effects. My friend takes Parnate by itself and has absolutely NO side effects now. When he started it made him feel worn out and cold, but that wore off. He couldn't believe it, because he had all sorts of bad side effects from the other ADs he had been trying for years.

I bet it's that other stuff that's causing your problems, except that if you feel tired it could be the Parnate, and like someone said it can lower your bp.

I'd try really hard to get REAL Parnate. Can't you get it somehow? It seems so weird that your doc and you would be FORCED to give you a drug you don't need or want in order to get the drug you DO need.

Hope you have good luck.

Hey Francisco,

Isn't it crazy that your Italian Parnate is messed up so it won't actually work to make you feel better, but if you look on this board how many people do you see getting high off Parnate?

Then check out the Nardil dudes, they're like tripping! Floating in the clouds!

Hope you caught my post above--you've got to get some real Parnate or some real Nardil. There must be some way, especially since your doc seems like a cool dude.

Man, your English is really good to. Way better than mine.

Hope you're lucky...
