Posted by jonh kimble on September 12, 2003, at 15:16:45

ive heard things about nmda antagonists being used for stimulant and opioid tolerance. i dont understand how this works and i would be interested to here if anyone knows anything about this and whether or not there are any available in canada/ us.

Also does anyone one know how close memantine is coming to being approved in canada/ us? thanks

My brain is in a fog right now from overwork, so I'm not very verbal....

One commonly found drug is dextromethorphan (DXM) of cough-syrup fame. Another, if I recall correctly, is ketamine. Again, if I recall correctly, another is tramadol (Ultram).

I don't know how well they work, in this regard, but there is evidence in the medical literature that they do work.

I don't know anything about memantine.

Not sure if it is an agonist or antagonist though.
