biting benzo craving

Posted by slinky on May 30, 2003, at 4:23:58

I take benzo's rarely , ..I was supposed to be administered one tablet for the dentist but the pharmacist made mistake and gave me more , so due to my doom state I thought yummy .
I've been feeling rough lately so it's been 5 mg every 2 days...
I asked for more from the doc but he gave just a little amount.
Like alcohol I'm getting cravings ??(even though I'm not taking one every day) just after this short time...and my 5mg sometimes isn't enough. I have addictive personality I suppose.
I wish the pharmacist didn't make that mistake .

Is valerian any good and at what dose to get rid of the Valium Vice?

I've definitely got to promote niacinamide here. It's an over-the-counter form of vitamin B-3 (niacin) that binds to benzodiazepine receptors. A natural benzodiazepine! Studies say you should take 500mg four times a day, or one 1500mg extended-release tablet. This works well not only for treating the cravings/withdrawal, but for treating the anxiety itself. I take it each and every day myself. Good luck!

<cut>

Do you also take a rounded B-complex with your "mega doses" of B-3. I think I remember from somewhere (some time long ago) that the Bs should be taken together...although I also remember something about B-12 being an exception. Hell, I don't know what I know anymore. That's all I know.

heh heh heh

Actually, I do take a sublingual liquid B-complex formula. I'm sure this is a much more effective way of delivering the vitamins to your system than those clunky pills. I couldn't say for sure if anything's changed since I added the B-complex to the other supplements I take (inc. the niacinamide), but I consider it very important to remember every day.

Thanks..
I take a little niacin with my vitamin b complex-just 18mg..(also take other vitamins)..but I'll definately have a go at 500mg four times a day.

Yes, I also find nicotinamide (niacinamide) pretty helpful. I've read numerous studies on it on pubmed, but couldn't find any that would provide dosages you mentioned above? Could you please post those studies? I appreciate it.

I might check out the sublingual formula and give it a try. The pills make me want to barf (burping up that B-2 is disgusting).

Here you go:

Just scroll down to the section on niacinamide in anxiety treatment for the information. I'll provide more extensive info when I come across it.
