Posted by westie on December 23, 2002, at 8:29:09

I need advice my husband is very angry with life and does react and say things without thinking. I am hypersensitive so that does not help. He is on 100mg. of topamax and 250mg of Welbutrin. I am wondering if the welbutrin is causing him to be more aggitated. I need help I can not live like this and he can be a wonderful man.

Is your husband diagnosed with bipolar and is taking Topamax for that? Was the Wellbutrin added or increased most recently?

My husband has NOT been diagnosed with Bi-Polar but with a mood disord which is a nicer way to put it. He was on Welbutrin first and has been on that dosage for awhile. Then Month ago Topamax was added and Lithium taken away. But he is only on Topamax 100mg. He is worse and says a lot of mean things to me. He was not this way before. At least he had a lot more good times than bad.

Well, they have just told him he has a mood disorder he stays angry all the time they tried Wellbutrin first and then added paxil and then Topamax. He is sick of taking drugs that don't work. He feels like he is worthless. He is now off paxil and on 250mg of Wellbutrin and 100mg of Topamax. Just curious if this Wellbutrin is causing him to be more angry. It wasn't working enough that is why doc added Topamax. HELP!!

I have bipolarII and that is a mood disorder. Wellbutrin (at higher doses) have triggered hostility episodes in the past. The only med that has effectively controlled the hostility associated with BPII has been Depakote, thus far.

I have two experiences to share that might help. I have a mood disorder and have taken Wellbutrin off and on, however I can no longer tolerate it, it gives me intense anxiety and disphoria. My husband also tried taking Wellbutrin, but I experienced hime as very moody and really irritable on it. He could try effexor but it has attendcy to dull the emotions quite a bit, I hated when my husband was on it because he didn't seem to care about anything. I am very sensitive as well and I understand how it feels to want to fix the situation. Try to help your husband but to not to solve everything it will only cause both of you grief
Best of luck

Westie,
I hear you it is difficult to stifle those nurturing tendencies women have. Although Having Anxiety myself it is quite relieving when I can remember that I am not repsonsible for the emotional well-being of my husband. Sorry if I have gotten off the question of "Topemax"
