Not very much in my experience, just taper a bit slowly. Maybe some dizziness, I find it useful to take a tiny bit (2,5 mg) sometimes for the first few weeks after I stopped.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree. Celexa has withdrawal symptoms for a lot of people. Some symptoms may include: dizziness, tingling sensations , tiredness, vivid dreams, irritability or poor mood. It took over a month for me to feel well enough to try the next anti-depressant.

That being said, I do think it's a good drug and I wouldn't shy away from trying it because of the withdrawal symptoms. Two options for a better withdrawal are to taper extremely slowly and/or switch to Prozac temporarily. They have found that if you switch to Prozac while the withdrawal would be occuring you won't experience the side effects. Then when you discontinue Prozac the side effects are basically nil. Prozac has a much longer half-life so there aren't really any reported side effects for it.

I had the worst withdrawal symptons from Celexa, and I went off slow, started doing Lexapro at the same time in really really small dose, against my docs orders, finally feeling pretty good on the Lexapro @ 10mg

Joe- I'm just curious how long it took before you felt good. It will be three weeks on Tuesday since I made the switch from Celexa to Lexapro and I'm still experiencing headaches, nausea. I had a bout 4 really good days in there and then 3 bad ones. Feel OK today but wondering how long it will last. Thanks babs

My experience with Celexa withdrawl

I quit taking Celexa at the beginning of this August. For two days I went to 10mg from 20mg, and felt fine, then I just quit taking them. That is when I got terrible flu like symptoms, (fever, headache, etc.) just felt like complete crap. I lasted 2 days like that and then went back to taking 10mg for about a week, then I cut back to 5mg for about 5 days. I then quit completely. I didn't get anymore flu like symptoms, but I did get a very weird feeling I had never had before. It was like someone had tied an electric cattle prod to me and kept zapping me every 5 seconds. It was really bad for a few days. I even asked my friend if she could notice anything weird about me when this was happening. She said no. It went away in about 2 weeks. I still sometimes get that feeling, although mild, very mild, when I am very tired.

But the withdrawl problems for me was well worth it because Celexa worked for me with regards to calming the anxiety and depression, I just didn't like the affect it had on my stomach. I would take the withdrawl symptoms over the anxiety/depression symptoms any day.

If you do get withdraw symptoms, just know they will go away.

I am presently not taking anything and seem to be fine, not perfect, but fine.

Good luck.
