Drug for isolationists

Posted by Jerrympls on July 25, 2002, at 0:39:29

Whenever apathy and its cousin lethargy pin me down - which has been almost every day for the past months - I isolate myself in my apt - have no feelings about keeping up with friends - actually get upset - mad - when friends want me to do something - no feelings for family, etc. I'm on Dexedrine and Prozac and I hate life and have no self-confidence or self-esteem. It's a Wonderful Life....can't get enough!!!

"Oh you're tired again?? WHy don't you want to hang out with us? You're always tired! Do you hate us? Why do you only respond to things we want to do with such a lackluster attitude? Why can't you just cheer up--I can?"

Friends....ahhhh.....gotta love 'em.

A while back I was on a similar drug combo -- Celexa and Dexedrine, and I felt similar to the way you are feeling. Although some folks do well on Celexa, I felt it was one of the worst drugs I've ever taken. It completely negated the good things about Dexedrine. Prior to beginning Celexa, I'd been on the same dose of Dex for a long time. Once I added Celexa, I had to continually increase the Dex dose in an attempt to counteract the apathy and fatigue caused by Celexa. I was always tired and I lost my motivation and drive to do anything on Celexa. I don't think Prozac is as bad as Celexa as far as those side effects are concerned, but Prozac and Celexa are in the same class of drugs (SSRI's), so perhaps some adjustments are in order.

I do the same thing and have for years. Actually, I sent an email to my 2 best friends in Austin yesterday and told them that I was sorry for not responding to their requests to get together. I also told them it might not change.
I spend a lot of time alone. Part meds and part control freak.

I live here as do quite a few babblers. When were you here in school? It's grown a lot but still a great city. Well, when I get out it is.

Me, too, Phil, and me too again. I send a lot of emails asking people to not hold my silence against me. Etc. I realized the other day, when I'd been out of contact with everyone for about 4 days, wow, I coulda been dead and nobody would have known!! People are so used to me being withdrawn.

My most understanding friend, at Christmas, got me a door mat that says "GO AWAY".....gotta love those friends who understand....
