i heard that testosterone inhibits mao. too little testostorone may mean too much mao and this could lead to mood disorders especially depression.
hey maybe this has something to do with why people on steroids can be more aggressive? or maybe its the testosterone itself? just a thought.

Phil, I've read something on this somewhere before - something similar to how menopause can affect a woman's moods & depression. I'll try again to find the info for you. It mentioned treatment too.

I've been wondering if DHEA is a possible substitute to help bring testosterone levels back to normal. I may be looking at quitting antidepressants and going just on benzos, and would really like to know if this helps. I have been on Effexor on and off over a few years, and my teststerone levels have come back a bit below normal. This was near the start of my treatment, and I wonder if my levels are even lower now after years of treatment. I tried DHEA before my antidepressant days, and it just had all side effects, no benefit.BTW..I have a small plastic bottle of testosterone cream, but I have no idea how or where, or how much, to use! Could anyone help me?

I've heard that the doc giving you either shots or pills is best. My friend's shrink said the OTC stuff doesn't work.
From what I've read, low testosterone symptoms are almost identical to depression. HMMMMM

My pdoc uses DHEA. Altho he is a med guy, he uses "natural" meds in his practice when they're the smartest choice.There was a piece on Medscape within the last few months, yessir, low test. levels can be instinguishable from depression, particularly in men. If I recall, DHEA is for testosterone. ..

From my own experience SSRI's lower testosterone levels.

Here's an interesting study that suggests antidepressants may cause testosterone deficiency. I posted this link many months ago but got no response.
