I have constant urgency, but I am not able
to that much . I feel like my bladder is full
all the time.

I would suggest that you call your local pharmacist and your doctor back... I hope you feel better soon...Is anyone out there on Celexa for agoraphobia/panic disorder??? The first few weeks on Celexa were difficult, I so hyper and anxious...
I have been on Celexa for 4 months now, and feel GREAT... My anxiety level is lower than I can remember... Thank god for SSRI's I wish they had been around 25 years ago... Does anyone know how long you stay on them.. and if I do have to go off and go back on them again will I have to relive those horrible first weeks again too????..

Today is the 2nd day my husband has been taking 10 mg of celexa. Never had any other AD before.
He said that last night was awful trying to sleep. From other message boards that I have been reading, I notice that some people feel sleepy all the time and some have problems sleeping. One person wrote that Benedryl helps them sleep and it's non addicting. Also that it's safe to take with this drug.
Does anyone else have any ideas on how to get a restful night's sleep.
Also, his stomach is really bothering him. Very nauseas during meals. How long does this last?
And why would a drug affect people the way it does? I thought that this was just helping the chemical that the brain is deficient in to obtain more of that chemical. Why do you have stomach aches and restless nights?
I am trying to understand this drug and trying to help support my husband while he is taking this drug. I may have a lot of questions and hope that none of you get bothered by my inquisitiveness.
I am glad that I found this site because from the knowledge I get reading these messages, I pass them on to my spouse, who wouldn't in a million years come and share problems with complete strangers. I have to for him---because I love him and want to help.

As for prescribing Prozac first (I read that other statement) and 1st of all heard Prozac is more likely to cause weight gain and also that Celexa is a newer drug that is supposed to have less side effects (that's what my dr. said).
As for your husband not being interested in you, please make sure that it's not something else (like an affair). My husband acted the same way - was actually depressed but was also having an affair and kept telling me it wasn't me - but after all it was. He wouldn't pay attention to me, wanted to be alone, would take off and say he just had to get away from the house - kept reassuring me it wasn't me - but it was.
I don't mean to scare you, just wanted you to be aware in case that is the case because I was such a fool believing him and thinking that he was just sick so I was going along with everything.

> TerriThe exact same thing happened to me! I first felt less pressure when I urinated and then thought I had a urinary infection because I kept having to go. I was given antibiotics as well but it didn't make a difference. This feeling eventually went away - 1 to 2 months I think.

I was also restless and didn't sleep as well at first but after my body adjusted I sleep very well - too well - 10-12 hours a night. The medicine has been fantastic for me - I'm more sociable, outgoing, talkative, willing to try new things. Before I was almost a recluse and very shy about talking to strangers and had no interest in going out with friends (it seemed like an effort). I am also more calm and positive and less obsessive about things (like how the house looks). Don't worry. Just give the medicine time to work and best of luck.

> all the time.Yes, actually I felt like that especially at night. I had this pressure and had to get out of bed to go to the bathroom but wouldn't go very much. It drove me crazy! I had some leftover pills from a urinary infection - not the antibiotic but the ones that take away the urgency. I took those on the nights that were the worst and when I wanted to not wake up all night having to go to the bathroom. Eventually the symptoms went away - I think 1 to 2 months.

I noticed when I was talking to friends at dinner last night that I could not concentrate on what they were saying. When I realized I didn't know what they were talking about I tried again to consciously concentrate. I just couldn't seem to! I got lost again. I am wondering if anyone else has had similar effects. I am also on Buspar 60 mg but have not been this bad. My mind wanders quickly without even realizing it. I hope it stops soon!

I haven't had any problems with concentrating - maybe when I first started Celexa. Prozac is stimulating to a lot of people--my Dad says his patients experience that.

I was on Celexa some time ago and it does make you more
sociable. What other positive or negative side effects
have you had from Celexa. I take Wellbutrin 150mg
per day and will increase to another 100mg starting
tomorrow. I will say I miss the social part of celexa.
I truly do. Wellbutrin does not do that for me, but
it motivates me and helps me focus much more and I
think clearer on it somehow. Celexa was wonderful
with its ability to help me overcome my social
ineptness or social phobia. Have you gained much
weight from celexa? I don't recall huge weight gain.
Loved those carbohydrates though, but struggled to
lose any weight I may have wanted to. I am just curious
what and how you feel about it. Wellbutrin is not
a drug to make one calm, at least not me.I hope I did not interfere with the thread. Apologies

I have urinary problems from effexor (I think--Scott suggested it could be from the serzone, but it started before I added serzone to my cocktail). I have been looking for info on this.
What I have been able to come up with is that there are various serotonin receptors in the bladder and ureter that cause the muscle tissue to contract. With serotonergic medications, it is possible that these receptors are activated, causing spasms in the urinary tract, which causes the urgency and frequency.
I am still trying to find out which serotonin receptors are responsible, and whether some of them can be blocked. I will try to post the abstract references sometime soon--I think you can find them in the archives--search under 5HT4 and my name (noa).

It's been a long while since you wrote that about weight gain. You wrote that you tried Wellbutrin. Did you still gain on Wellbutrin as well as the rest? I heard that you can lose weight while on it. I am going off Celexa because I gained about 15-20 lbs. I can't seem to shed any. I am getting onto Wellbutrin and hope it will help me lose the weight I gained because I am getting depressed now because of how I feel about myself. Pointless to take the ADs then! Any info from anyone would be great!

Hi Gladys,
I'm about to do the same thing, ie, quit Celexa because of weight gain. I've been taking a small dose of Celexa with Wellbutrin. The Celexa was added to reduce the edginess I experienced as a side effect of the WB. It does accomplish that, but I've had it with this non-stop weight gain.

My psychiatrist just prescribed this medication for my anxiety. I have only taken one pill so I am no expert on this drug. Reading about all the side effects is pretty scary.

I really like Celexa. I didn't gain weight (has been about 5 months on mostly 20 mg dosage). I actually felt a bit nauseous at first and wasn't as interested in eating as I used to be. My original side effects were: restless legs and feet, tingling feet, decreased sensation in the private areas, increased urgency to urinate, spacey feeling, extreme tiredness. These mostly went away after about a month. I guess I still get restless legs while sleeping (so my husband says). I need to sleep 10 - 12 hours a night. I'm going to try my med. in the morning instead of at night (thought maybe the restless legs was not allowing me good sleep). I got some sensation back in the private area, but not totally (no problem with orgasm though). I love Celexa though. It makes me very sociable whereas before I was somewhat anti-social. I feel more calm and able to deal with problems and stress. I am much happier than before. I pretty much have a positive outlook on life whereas before I didn't. Of course, going to therapy helps and I'm reading a lot of good stuff like "Wherever You Go, There You Are" (about meditation) and "Don't Sweat the Small Things - and they're all small" and an article about the Dalai Lama and how he analyzes thoughts fully (like anger and considering all factors of becoming angry - will it help? did I cause some of it? that the other person is both good and bad and think of positive things in person - how can this experience help expand my thoughts?, etc. Sorry to go on and on - just wanted to add these suggestions in addition to the medicine.Take Care,

Celexa definitely helps some people (it does me) in counteracting the edginess sometimes
produced as a side effect of Wellbutrin. I've taken them together (only 10 mg of Celexa with 300 mg of WB)for the past year and a half, and it's worked pretty well. I too am quitting Celexa however, because of major weight gain. I don't know what's worse: the grumpy moods/short temper that comes with the WB or feeling fat from taking Celexa. There must be something else that can reduce/eliminate the edginess from WB without gaining an easy 20-30 lbs in the process.

I've been taking Celexa (20mg) for about a week now for anxiety/panic. The first couple of days on the drug were tough (nausea, shaking, trouble sleeping). Now the side effects are beginning to ease some. Everyone I spoke with said to give it at least two weeks before giving up on it. The first week is the toughest because it takes SSRI's a little time for your body to adjust. I'm feeling better. Am now able to drive and went back to work after a month two days ago. I'm not over this yet (probably never will be), but I am learning to not let it control my life. The drug is only part of the solution, the mental/spirital approach to the whole anxiety/panic thing is important. Have you tried the book "Power Over Panic"? It helps. Good Luck!!

I have been on zoloft for about three years and it suddenly stopped working. I changed shrinks (not because I did not like him, but it was through the University and they don't want to continue treating me. They need the space for other students which I completely understand).
My new doc suggested that I stay on the zoloft for a while and add the celexa. He said that I could split the pill in half if I wanted and start on 10 mgs, but I chose to start with the 20.
I've been taking it for about 2 weeks now. I started taking it in the morning but it made me sleep all day. Then I switched to evenings.
I still have great difficulties sleeping at night. I have no difficulty staying awake all night and then sleeping during the day. I can't really say if it is the celexa doing this as all my life I have been a nightowl and given the slightest opportunity my internal clock will flip flop and I have the hardest time straightening it out.
oh yeah. Now I remember what I was going to say:)
I was taking the zoloft for depression and incredible anger that I could not control which nearly cost me my life and my marriage. Needless to say I am still here and my marriage is better than ever. However, what made me go back to the doc was severe anxiety/panic. I could not get out of bed to go to work. I wound up quitting my job because I thought it just wasn't fair to them to put them through what I knew would be a long drawn out affair to get myself back under control.
I did experience some stomach upset from the zoloft periodically. If I did not take it with my morning coffee I was in agony. I have not experienced this with the celexa, so that is good. Anyway, I guess that's all for now. I hope to hear from you (and any others who wish) about your experiences and how you are doing.Take care
