SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF YOUR DREAMS ARE SIMILAR

Posted by doodlemail on September 25, 2000, at 14:34:23

the dreams i have been having since on this Effexor are soooo crazy.
They are almost always violent in some way or another, and so detailed, it is unreal.
I know this is a side effect of this medication, and it is not something that really really bothers me to the point of
not being able to stand it....they are JUST SO GRAPHIC AND WEIRD

Doo,
I've had a couple of psych meds that left me with really psychotic dreams, waking up yelling, or crying. It may go away for you. The ones that caused it for me I eventually got off of because of other side effects. I'm on Effexor now and don't have weird dreams very often. Sometimes when I'm really stressed.

I had very vivid dreams(graphic, vibrant, realistic, etc), sometimes kind of wierd, but they were always plesant. I miss them now that I'm not taking effexor any more. Good luck.

Michael,

When I was on Effexor and missed a dose, I would have what I describe as "night terrors." These dreams seemed more more than reality and I had a very difficult time waking up from them. When I took the Effexor regularly, I didn't dream at all. Nada. None.

Now that I'm withdrawing from Effexor (day 14 and hanging on), my dreams are very vivid and graphic like you described. Difficult for anyone who hasn't really experienced this before to understand. Sometimes the dreams are "terrors" and sometimes just less than pleasant. Always very graphic and feel real; always feels difficult to wake up from. Many times the next day, the dream seems like a real memory rather than a dream.

I'm not sure if my reading my experiences help you - hope so. Good luck!

Cheryl

I've been taking 225mg of Effexor and experience VERY graphic and realistic dreams every night. They're kinda violent too. Guns, bombs, chasing people, getting chased, sticking a laser up a guy's nose, stuff like that. Last night I stormed Hitler's stronghold in the Black Forest to blow the place up and grab secret documents. I'm also having difficulty distinguishing between my dreams and reality in my memories.

Also, I think I'm going diabetic. I have cravings for sweets that drive me to the variety store for 3 chocolate bars. To make things worse my legs are so sore I'm not keeping up with my exercise (which helps with the depression in addition to shedding a few pounds).

Thanks to everyone who posted info about their withdrawal symptons with Effexor. I spent last weekend in bed after switching meds in an attempt to alleviate some of the sexual dysfunction side effects (non-existent libido and a post-ejaculation burning sensation). I felt like someone had dropped me off a cliff. SERIOUS vertigo, sweats, nausea, fever, chiils, diarrhea, body ache. That's the worst I've ever felt in my life (including broken bones, fights, etc.)

I was 5 minutes away from asking my roomie to drive me to the hospital or calling my mommy ;) when I realized it was the withdrawal from the Effexor. I got to a walk-in clinic the next morning and got back on the Effexor....within hours the symptoms began to disappear. A few days later they were gone completely. Yikes.

Is there any 'official' publication that discusses the withdrawal symptoms associated with Effexor? I'd like to be able to show my doctor some corroborative evidence so he'll take my warnings seriously. According to what he's been told Effexor has very few side effects and can't cause the type of problems I've been experiencing. Yeah right.

Thanks.

Mike
