Celexa

Posted by CMW on August 28, 2000, at 14:48:37

I started taking it a few months ago, and I feel much better, but I've been having very vivid, bizarre dreams that wake me up at night. Has anyone else experienced this?

Now that you mention it, I have had some pretty vivid dreams too. I started Celexa about 3 weeks ago.
I have had stretches of vivid, bizarre dreams before, though, too. My dreams have actually gotten less
violent (though more complex) since starting medication.

Do the dreams seem useful or meaningful to you? Or are they just bizarre...?

They're totally bizarre. I've had nightmares in the past, but they seemed random. Now it's like my brain capitalizes on everything I worried about during the day and the dreams are long, detailed, and very stressful. My psychiatrist said I should let him know if it continues, but I don't know what he could do about it. I agree with you; mine are less violent, but scarier because they seem like real life while I'm dreaming them.

Hi, CMW. Sorry to hear that the dreams are so uncomfortable. I hope they settle down for you.
Maybe your psychiatrist wants to know so that s/he can adjust dosage or change medication? Do you see him/her often, or do you have a counselor/therapist to share the dreams with?

Oh my god it, I thought I have been going crazy!! My dreams have been so vivid that I remember most of it when I wake up and believe me I would rather not. I have been on Celexa for about 2 months myself. Have you asked your doctor about this?

In response to both Emily and Eileen: I see my shrink about once a month, and I don't have another therapist. (My psychiatrist told me he thinks the drugs are working well and that I don't talk enough in therapy for it to be useful.) I did mention the dreams to him, and he was concerned about it disrupting my sleep since I wake up exhausted in the morning. He said we'd talk about it the next time I went in, and that if it became unbearable in the meantime, I should call him.

Eileen, you're definitely not going crazy. But it's freaky, isn't it? I'm sorry you're having them, but a little relieved to know I'm not the only one. I wonder what the reason is for the dreams.
