14,000 here. But it goes with my 13 inch tv that you have to smack a few times to get the color to work. Poloroid would be great. Then, if you want you could post it.

Aside to those going to Babblefest NYC:
If I do remember my Polaroid, there will be no candids and no pictures taken without the permission of those posing. If you want anonymity, you've got it. Since I imagine any pictures that might get taken we be passed around, everyone will have a chance to nix any pix -- we'll throw them out on the spot. Fair enough?See you Tuesday,

Don't I wish. No, that would require a combination of hardware and net access that this poor, extended support group can manage, I'm afraid. But I'll make all the non-NYC folks a deal ... actually, its more like a public radio fundraising campaign challenge grant: I will bring various artistic media (paper, crayons, watercolors, maybe even some finger paint) and again, biding by my non-disclosure conditions stated in a post above, I will take any group-approved renditions of the live event (kinda like those courtroom artists) and post it on my web site for all to see. Let's see if there is a relationship between creativity and depression, folks!

Yes, in fact -- it's a standard practice in my web design class. Haven't posted my current classes, but you can take a gander at my previous term's class (and if you want to see some HIDEOUS code, view the source -- I did it in PageMill 3 as an example of the butchery WYSIWIG Editors can do). http://idt.net/~raboyle/ns/3245map.html. Then there's the babblefest announcement, featuring a truly hideous polaroid of me taking my own photo at http://idt.net/~raboyle/babble/babblefest.html.
The great thing about Polaroids is that they are the Great Equalizer. EVERYONE looks hideous on Polaroid film. It also gives the viewer the effect that they may have actually been there -- they always have that, oh, 0.15 BAL, glased-over look to them, making you wonder just how much you may have had to drink and why is this party missing from your memory?
Oh, Polaroids also make GREAT Christmas tree decorations. I kid you not.

Bob-LOL but no, not web tv, just an "ancient" 3 yr old computer with 100mh speed and 14000 modem..it does go with the other low tech items in my apt. like the tv with the bent antenna that you have to whack a few times to get the picture to come up and the color to work....still, the color is off a bit...I was flipping channels once and noticed that Barney was Blue. Don't want to buy another tv. BTW, speaking of whacking the tv, it reminds me of an old (really old) Woody Allen nightclub routine about mechanical objects.

Actually, I tested out this theory once. I was living out of doors all summer as a children's camp counselor, and I had to get my license renewed. Well, I decided to go in first thing in the AM, no shower, no comb, no shave (well, that was a given back then), rumpled clothes ....
Best damn driver's license photo I ever took. Still have it, fifteen years later, as proof.

I think I've said, and maybe others have as well, how much I've learned from my gay friends about this -- it's okay to be "out" with each other ... better than okay; it's uplifting, it's empowering, it's dignifying. Talking (and listening) on this boards certainly breaks the ice as well. All the same, some of us don't want to be "out" to anyone else, and we all have to respect that.

I had to have a new picture taken for my license, and the woman behind the camera stopped me on the way out the door. The picture was so bad, she wouldn't put it on the license! She made me do it again, so that she could try to make it prettier!
One of the benefits of a small town...
A friend of mine had a picture that was so good that she hated it. Said it put too much pressure on her to live up to it every day! Doncha wish you had that problem?

Bob (not the doctor), you sound angry. Sorry to be a no show but somewhere in the talk of guests and cameras and live hook-ups, the anxiety began to overwhelm. My inability to appear had little to do with needing to hide behind my moniter. It had more to do with the pressure that seemed to build around the event. I am not crazy about subways, entering resturaunts by myself, cameras and even jokes about live feeds. I was sorry not to have the chance to meet you. That's one of the problems with electronic communication -- it's really easy not to get your message across ... I was just teasing.
After the small turnout, I began to suspect exactly the sorts of things you mentioned. A friend of mine has this theory that "middle" children grow up to be cruise directors, and as the middle child of the youngest cluster of three in my family, I tend to get carried away with the cruise director syndrome.
So, let me say instead to you, CD, and anyone else who shied away that I am sorry you couldn't make it, for whatever reason. Like I said, there's always the chance to have another face-to-face in the future in people are interested -- it's nice to be able to meet the people behind the posts, and there is so much more we can share meeting f2f than through this medium.

I'm not CD but in regard to the internet experience & depression I will comment. Before I started doing research on depression, anxiety, bipolar, etc.on the internet I think that perhaps iginorance was bliss. Increased awareness has taken control of my mind. Today I am so frustrated with all of it. But it seems that this is the only place I find refuge anymore. That's crazy. What refuge is there in typing words to strangers? Maybe this-- I'm just saving $100/hr. and misunderstanding from those who know me.

Well, hopefully we can get beyond that ... we may not "know" one another, but we're certainly not strangers.
CD and I have been chatting via email, and we're working on a "low impact" follow-up. There's gotta be quite a few of us Babblelanders near NYC, so hopefully we can make this a regular event ... our own little Coffee Talk, "where we twalk about Cwauffe, disorders, and dwaugs ... no big whup!"
Can't beat Group Therapy for the price of a grande latte, even at Starbuck's prices....
